Via Reddit - this could be on-point or b.s.:

  • Working title is "Echoes of the Dark Side"

  • It's divided into three equally important plot threads that don't converge until the third act: Rey's, Finn's, and Kylo's.

  • There's not nearly as much action as TFA in the first two acts, but the third act goes full-on crazy.

  • The broad structure isn't as similar to ESB as TFA was to ANH, but the parallels are still present. Rey is training in the ways of the Force with an old Jedi master (Luke) on a wild planet while Finn and Poe are in a beautiful city that has a shady, sinister underpinning. Finn and Poe are betrayed and captured by Kylo Ren who uses them as bait to draw Rey out of hiding so Kylo and Rey can have a duel in an industrial portion of the city.

  • The backstory to Luke and his Jedi being wiped out is that Snoke seduced Kylo and a few of the other students to the dark side and tasked them with killing everyone. Luke and a few others survived, including a young Rey who was subsequently dumped on Jakku by Luke.

  • Rey's mom died in the attack.

  • Rey is pissed at Luke because she guesses that he was her father and is angry at him for abandoning her. Luke turns to her and says "No, you are my father." Yes, really.

  • Rey is the reincarnation of Anakin Skywalker. Luke went to the first Jedi temple to better understand how the process works. He learned that the spirit of the chosen one is reincarnated by the Force every time the universe is thrown out of balance, which apparently happens on a semi-regular basis (Anakin was hardly the first time the chosen one reincarnated). This is why she's so crazy powerful with the Force (remember that Anakin blew up the Trade Federation doughnut ship by himself when he was like 8 years old).
  • Rey was the product of a virgin birth, but midichlorians aren't mentioned (Luke says "you are a child of the Force").

  • Luke is hesitant to train her because, according to Jedi history, the chosen one always struggles with staying on the light side of the Force because of the chaotic power running through them. He's afraid that she could become Vader 2.0. If he trains her to fight Kylo, and she turns dark, she would do way more damage to the galaxy than Kylo could ever dream of doing.

  • He ultimately trains her anyway and leaves everything up to the Force. He makes this decision in a scene where he confers with the ghosts of Obi-Wan and Yoda (Ewan MacGregor and Frank Oz come back).

  • Rey learns lightsaber skills, Force skills, and has a vision quest thing where she talks with Maz Kanata (unsure if it’s telepathy or just a dream) and Hayden Christenson. The latter tells her that she is him, but different, and there’s a quick scene where we see hundreds of other Force ghosts who are implied to be past chosen ones.

  • Rey feels Finn's distress elsewhere in the galaxy and says she needs to go to him. Luke tells her about the time he felt his friends in distress and Yoda told him to stay and finish his training, and his disobedience led to pain. But then he says he isn't Yoda, and has his own way of doing things, and tags along with her to go help.

  • Finn wakes up on a Resistance cruiser and is told by Poe that they're already en route to the makeshift Republic homeworld in the wake of the capital planet being blown up by Starkiller Base.

  • Leia wants to lobby them to go to war.

  • The Republic is being led by an interim dictator named Lord Vikram (Benicio Del Toro), who was quickly put into power by the few senators still around to maintain order.

  • Starkiller's destruction of the Republic core worlds caused a galactic communications disruption because everything was routed through those worlds, so Vikram is trying to reestablish contact and ensure the Republic doesn't collapse into anarchy.

  • Leia and Vikram butt heads. Vikram agrees that the Republic has to go to war with the First Order, but wants to wait for communications to come back online so they can muster up a sizable force (all they have right now is a single small fleet). Leia disagrees, and wants to take the war to the First Order now while Snoke is still reeling from Starkiller's destruction. She says both sides are in chaos, which makes this an opportune time to strike. Vikram counters by telling her she's letting her personal emotions over Han's death get in the way, and Leia throws it back at him by telling him he was always a little snake of a politician when they would argue back in her senate days, etc, etc, they have old bad blood or whatever.

  • The Republic planet is safe because it's protected by a heavy duty shield that can repel any invasion or bombardment from the First Order.

  • Finn and Poe are tasked by Leia to investigate the city because one of Leia's contacts informed her that the First Order have spies embedded in the Republic. Leia suspects Vikram.

  • Finn quickly becomes enamored by Leia's contact, Chala (Kelly Marie Tran), who tags along with him and Poe through the underbelly of the city to gather information.

  • Finn and Chala have a flirty romance subplot that involves a nighttime adventure through the rustic old city (this is the second entry in the trilogy after all, and poetry demands it).

  • Finn, Poe and Chala all corner the culprit: Vikram's aide, who has evidence of contact between Vikram and the First Order. Leia and some Resistance fighters confront Vikram and throw him in jail for treason. He denies everything, and the rest of the Republic officials are horrified because Leia basically just coup-de-etat'd the **** out of their leadership. Leia assumes control of the planet's defenses and absentmindedly puts Finn in charge of the shield codes.

  • Finn and Chala have a moment and Finn mentions his confusion about why Vikram didn't just lower the shields for the First Order. They walk into a room and Phasma is standing there and Chala draws a gun on Finn and forcibly takes the codes for disarming the shield from him. She says she planted the evidence, used Finn to get the codes, and basically that she thinks he's a dirty traitor to the First Order. In a moment of pure pottery, Phasma makes Finn lower the shields.

  • The First Order fleet jumps out of hyperspace and invades the planet, quickly capturing Finn, Poe and Leia. Kylo starts to torture Finn using the Force, knowing that it will draw Rey out of hiding and into his trap.

Lots of interesting possibilities there, and I really like some of them.

I have heard similar snippets firsthand. The "it gets weird" comments start to make sense now. Certainly an interesting take on the Force and it actually does go a long way in justifying the sequel trilogy.

The reddit rumors aren't bad, in my opinion. However, it looks like Pablo Hidalgo debunked them today:

https://twitter.com/pablohidalgo/status/723272170818904064

I'm just along for the ride, as usual, because it's Star Wars. However, I think I'm going to begin to focus my anticipation on Rogue One and Rebels S3, since VIII is so far off.

I like a lot of that except for the reincarnation crap, it's one thing for her to be another chosen one, it's another for her to be the reincarnation of Anakin, whom also has a spirit we have seen. Who was Anakin reincarnated of, then? Makes little sense to me.

Rey should be her own character, chosen one or not. I was looking thru the supposed leaked reddit TFA stuff that was out over a year before it's release. There were some things that turned out to be true but it was about 80 percent garbage. But as you get closer to the movie, about 6 months before the release or so, it gets more and more accurate.

This sounds like crazy fan theories mixed with a bit of obvious stuff we know will happen (e.g., Rey being trained by Luke) to give it some weight.

I don't buy it, especially the reincarnation stuff. That just gets too convoluted and ruins the effort made in TFA to allow these new characters to stand on their own and be distinct and interesting apart from the original trilogy characters.

Bogging it down with all the old stuff sounds more like the fervent wishes of fans unwilling to let go of the original films and accept something new.

There are a lot of people who grew up with the prequels, and its overarching themes of secret identities and complicated master plans, as their first experience of new Star Wars films, so I think a lot of them just expect that to be the norm for every new Star Wars film.

I'm of the opinion that if something feels like it's being setup as too obvious to be true, it's probably safe to assume it is true until something substantial indicates otherwise. If TFA set the tone for the new main series of films, I expect an emphasis on keeping the story accessible for an audience larger than just longtime Star Wars diehards going forward.

From 4Chan (so take them with some rock salt)

http://boards.4chan.org/tv/thread/68903803#p68904625

I am in a position that allows me to know certain details regarding the movie. There have been a lot of “leaks” recently that the crew has found nothing short of hilarious. People have been teasing Daisy Ridley calling her ‘My father’ on set as a joke after the whole bullshit Reddit post which went viral regarding Rey being the reincarnation of Anakin.
Now regarding the movie, here is a bit of information which some of you may find enticing.
- Laura Dern’s character is named Asala Qurd. She is playing the leader of one of the Republic’s military cruisers who were not near the planet that Starkiller blew up. She was a part of the group of politicians and military leaders who believed that the First Order posed no threat, and there is a verbal confrontation between her and Leia in which Dern says ‘ The daughter of Darth Vader has no right to lecture me!’
- Poe Dameron has more screen time and isn’t just in an X-wing like most of TFA.
- Hayden Christenson shot a scene during the nighttime at Pinewood, in which he communicates with both Luke and Rey.
- Kelly Tran is a really cool individual and is a really kind person who can’t act. I have no idea why they cast her in Star Wars. Her characters’ name is Shtala Zi, and is a Resistance contact on the planet that houses Beneicio Del Toro, more on him later. She has a safe-house there and it is seen that Poe knows her from before. Shtala goes out with Finn and Poe on a reconnaissance mission, and just as Finn starts getting attached to her and flirting a bit, The First Order strikes and it is made to seem that she died as she disappears after a huge explosion.
- Yoda also appears to Rey alone, but does speak to Luke without his actual ghost appearing.

- Captain Phasma appears and a gunfight between her squadron and Finn and Poe occurs, with Poe being wounded as he is shot at his wrist. ( I’m not sure but I think they’re going to let his hand be blown off to continue the tradition of a hand being cut off in each episode. )
- Luke explains to Rey the story of Kylo Ren, and how he destroyed everything Luke built after he was corrupted by Snoke. He also speaks of how Han and Ben Solo never really got along, as Ben saw Han as absent from his life. This absence allowed Snoke to really play with his mind.
- Luke mentions Qui-Gon Jin when explaining the light side to Rey.
- No Lando.
- Del Toro is a former bounty hunter and was a leader in the Republic who was not present during the explosion which destroyed the capital. After seeing the devastation, he decides that maybe joining the First Order is his only option and has extremely classified information regarding the Resistance that he plans on giving them in return for immunity. Kylo Ren kills him after Del Toro snickers at Kylo. I have no idea what his name in the movie is.
- Rey is extremely strong with the force but is erratic with it. She tends to tap into the dark side when sparring with Luke which makes him unwilling to train her. Luke has the company of a small animal furry thing on his island, which looks like a cross between a dog, an Ewok and a lizard.
- Leia is wounded in an explosion which prompts Luke to action, Rey also feels a disturbance in the force. They leave on the Falcon to join the rest.
- That’s all I really have. The second half of the third act of the movie is EXTREMELY under wraps. Literally maybe 8 people know what is going down. I asked someone who knows and she told me, “ You’ll wanna wait and see it in a crowded movie theatre.”

ANH's "amputation" was an homage to Yojimbo's famous slice:

Maul's midsection gutting was a tribute to the spluttering climax of Sanjuro (Yojimbo's sequel). Wait for the 1 minute 30 second mark:

That can't be right. Del Toro said he's playing the main villain and that doesn't sound like main villain stuff.

I always like to save these things and look at them later.

I did that with The Force Awakens.

A lot of it sounds like crap.

Will they separate Finn and Poe from Rey for most of the film like Luke on Dagobah?

I have my doubts.

Once we hear who Del Toro is playing, full-on First Order or sleazy New Republic politician, we may then have a major spoiler confirmed.

That would lend credence to some of the story plots around that character being true or false.

At this point, we just need to build a generator that creates comments every time a Star Wars movie is leaked. I'm just saying because we have to say the same shit over and over again so instead of actually saying the same shit, why not use a program that generates the same shit? I mean it's the same shit every time. Example:

"___ needs to plug some holes."

"This shit got leaked. ___ need to do something about so it doesn't ruin (insert movie name here.")

You can toss in either Lucas or Disney and anything will fit the movie at the time.

I'm just saying... Every time a SW movie comes out, we get back to this same topic of security holes. This is the second movie of a trilogy right? So let's look at history:

Internet 2001: "This shit got leaked. Lucas needs to plug some holes"

Internet 2004: "This shit got leaked. Lucas needs to plug dat holes so ROTS won't be ruined"

Internet 2014: "This shit got leaked, Disney needs to plug this shit because I want Episode VII to be good."

It's a never ending cycle.

I don't buy it; and Pablo seems to have already debunked it in a backhanded sort of way.

We likely won't get a title until the late fall. I don't think even Rian knows what the title is.

As far as titles go, I actually think "The Creeping Fear" could apply here. It could refer to Rey (or even Luke) being tempted by the dark side or the galaxy being plunged into despair after the destruction of the Republic. Maybe even the rise of the Sith or a new sect of evil Force users that threatens the Luke's attempt to resurrect the Jedi.

Oh, don't get me wrong Freezy....I quite like the spoilers, I'm just shocked that so much has come out.

usually it's a tighter ship. Maybe it's misinformation, but given how close some of the spoilers were on VII, I'm thinking it's more damage control.

Doesn't matter how much I know before hand, it's always going to be better on the screen.

usually it's a tighter ship. Maybe it's misinformation, but given how close some of the spoilers were on VII, I'm thinking it's more damage control.

Doesn't matter how much I know before hand, it's always going to be better on the screen.

I never said I wasn't against spoilers.

It's clear that Lucas had more control over what's leaked than Disney does now.

But do you admit that back then Lucas-era Lucasfilm didn't look like a piece of Swiss cheese compared to post-Lucas Lucasfilm? I mean, back in 2001, we didn't have shit leaking out of LFL on a daily basis like we do now.

Not to mention an entirely different world regarding the proliferation of information via technology.

There were no smart phones during the time of the PT.

Agreed. Although we did have digital cameras (with shitty image quality). We did also have access to presses where we saw early scans of marketing stuff similar to the one that leaked from Rogue One.

Johnson tweeted the picture below, which makes me sad. The image of an isolated Jedi robe recalls Obi-wan's robe on the floor of the Death Star. Is VIII really the end of Luke?

It looks like it's on some rig to drop to the ground, which is concerning. I DON'T WANT Luke to die...

I always wanted her to be a Skywalker.

She should have been Han and Leia's kid and Kylo's sister.

Once she was shown as not, I said she was going to be made to be Luke's kid.

Search your feelings. You will know it to be true.

Don't feel bad... There's bargaining after the denial phase that you're in. You have a long path towards acceptance, my dear Padawan. :)

Besides why deny it? That guy in the article is one of the artists that LFL/Disney often hires to do artwork.

I found it while surfing on Facebook.

Edit: Here's his website.... It's the real deal. http://theartofrodelgonzalez.com/

That was obvious from every character trade and ability she had in TFA. I was expecting this since she was not introduced by her full Name. Seeing that she comes from a sandwaste planet And considering what she can do it was clear for me.

I think Rey will turn to the dark side and Kylo Ren will go good all before the end of Episode 8.

They need to do something bold and seriously shocking, and I think this would honestly shake new fans of the series, who are invested in Rey as their hero, to their core.

Also don't think she's Luke's kid.

Is it fair to say that a revelation that Rey ISN'T Luke's daughter would qualify as a shocking twist for the new fanbase? Considering how common that theory is and all...

Im with CoGro... June 7th dream

Hokusai wrote:I had a dream...
Rey was a very powerful force youngling, displayed too much power for Luke to handle... he flips, and strands her on a desert planet hoping to never hear from her again.
Kylo betrays him... I think Rey will go bad and this story is about the redemption of Ben Skywalker, following his story.
Rey is no relation. Luke saw her, knows who she is, figures he may as well train her since there is no such thing as coincidence and that the force put her in his path.

Thats my theory as of today.

I'll take it one step further: what if Luke killed Rey's parents, who were dark side warriors of some sort, and hid Rey on Jakku so she wouldn't follow her parents' dark path.

Rey finds out Luke killed them and turns to the dark side.

I don't think you can be shocked by a non event. Rey not being Luke's child but the daughter of a few nobodies would be met with a bit of a "Uh, OK whatever."

A "shocking twist" here would be to completely catch the audience off guard rather than simply providing a yes/no answer as to whether Rey is a Skywalker.

But also a twist just for the sake of having a twist is kind of silly. It needs to be an important plot point, not just another "omg wut?!" moment.

I think that's the kind of thing that may rescue the new narrative for me. Have Rey turn bad... no prophecy that she has to destroy the First Order from within etc. She just turns bad and Finn ends up having to kill her. A 'proper' bittersweet story across 3 films with the prophetic motto being that abandonment of children (Luke abandoning Rey), even with the best intentions, is not the correct route to take...
