Rebels S03E02 • Holocrons of Fate

Postby Max Rebo » October 1st 2016 5:40 am

Just saw it, it's online already

Maybe one, if not the best episode of the series, at least among the regular 20 minutes episodes, just incredibly executed.

And that ending, haha... go check it on streaming (waiting for a proper 1080p to appear for dl)

The Ending was...I can't wait for the conclusion of this! I really really wanna see this! Damn...

Great episode. I love the Bendu, I love how Ezra is tempted and how Kanan becomes more and more of a true powerful Jedi. Great Stuff this show!

This was a solid episode. But, I enjoyed the prior episode more for whatever reason. The series is "bridging" the PT and OT in a very natural manner.

What's teased at the end seems a little predictable for me. Hopefully, there are a few more twists before we see the animated adaption of "Old Wounds."

Based on the episode's Rebels Recon, it doesn't seem that Maul wants simple revenge. Filoni mentions Maul being denied death. Therefore, it seems Maul is on a suicidal quest to destroy the Jedi and Sith who have crossed him.

Rebels S03E03 • The Antilles Extraction

Episode is up, we have to wait for better quality, but here's the link

Not bad episode, but not so great too. We have also reference to Poe's words from TFA (well, the exact quote is here to be precise).

I agree, kind of average, and weirdly, a bit too much contemporary style dialogues here and there, like Ezra saying "I'm not a big fan of.." ... that bugged me a bit, it sounds too... err, american, sorry. Corny is okay, but no one speaks like that in a galaxy far far away. Like the writer was putting what was going on in his own mind into the scene rather than writing dialogue for a SW character. Weird because they had somewhat stopped putting such kind of expressions like "seriously" for quite some time, I hope it's not coming back too much...

Anyways, still some good stuff and I'm enjoying watching the show every week

I liked this episode a lot more than last week’s, although I tend to prefer Rebels focusing on, well, the rebellion. Also, this week we got to see more of the shades of gray that make the Galactic Civil War more interesting than just “The Bad Guys Are Bad.” Even in a moment like Sabine and Wedge’s hesitation in the simulator, you get an understanding for how the Empire could justify attacking an unarmed transport ship. Kallus lets the defectors escape to repay his debt to Zeb, though there also seems to be a sense that he's done being a blind devotee to the Empire. I hope we get to see Kallus explored more in the future, he's becoming a much more dynamic character than I ever thought he'd be back in the first season.

Holocrons of Fate wasn’t bad on its own, but I’m honestly so burned out on all the moments where Clone Wars and Rebels completely pause to become The Darth Maul Show Starring Darth Maul. I love so much of what Filoni has done with the animated shows, but I don’t get the fixation on constantly bringing Maul back so he can soliloquize his 497-step plan for Revenge™.

Exactly this for me too. It's starting to feel like he's had his hand in everything that's happened in the GFFA in these corresponding eras.

This is the type of show I initially envisioned Rebels to be...show the inner workings of the Empire, see members of the Rebellion we know from the OT get introduced in a natural way (Wedge), and the Force/Jedi are largely absent from the narrative.

And yet, my favorite episodes are where the Force is very prominent, like the S2 finale, which for me, was reminiscent of the Mortis arc and the Yoda arc from TCW.

Very true, in fact I've realized many elements of this episode, visuals, plot, tone, have made pop back some memories of vague images I pictured in my mind when they announced the show for the very first time... if you remember, it was a basically a video of Filoni and people talking and all we had was the logo

I'm not sure if I had preset notion about the show. It Star Wars. So, there's plenty of directions to go. I just hope for good storytelling.

I disagree on the negative Darth Maul comments. His character arc is an nice accompaniment to Darth Sidiuos.' He's the Dark Lord with bad breaks who contrasts with the one who plays his cards near-perfectly. It's an nice approach considering that they were introduced side-by-side in Episode 1.

I didn't realize until today that Rogue One's Gary Whitta penned the episode. I wonder if Rogue One's plotting will be as well structured?

Love the use of organ in the soundtrack.

Previously unfamiliar with Thrawn but I'm really taking to his cool, detached, calculated approach. I liked it when he lost it on Slavin for being so dim about the heirloom.

You'd think cool, detached, calculated villains would be played to death but Filoni and co. make it fresh and interesting for Star Wars.

Shout out to the organ music again. Perfect! :)

Not sure Ezra needed to be in this episode.

Yeah; Ezra seemed a bit tacked-on. When's Zeb going to be featured in an episode again?

Concerning Mandalore: I don't like teasing. TCW jumped the series into the heart of Mandalore's culture. The drip and drabs of Rebels approach is frustrating for me.

I do like how Concord Dawn has been portrayed in a very visually deliberate manner. It's Concordia, but it isn't.

So, when's Cody going to surface? Last episode, we have Rex call him by name. Here, we have his jet pack. Is Cody Maul's key to finding Kenobi?

While I very much enjoyed both of these episodes, I was expecting a little more. Maybe my disappointment is due to my love for the Goenosis arc from TCW?

Saw is handled about as expected. Hopefully, the show checks-in with him periodically as he devolves into his Rogue One persona.

I thought that Saw's eye color change and the sand line were witty touches.

Why didn't rocket troopers make it into Rogue One?

Pretty good episode. There's no consistency in Saw's accent, which feels kind of odd. He's more American in Rebels and has some English in Rogue One, even in the prologue, which takes place before Rebels

Really enjoying the Saw Gererra character, but I wish they didn't hold back on showing what he's capable of - he's an extremist - show it, don't let another character explain it in dialogue!

If I may, he has some American in the Rogue One prologue when he tells Lyra after she informs him Krennic is coming "You know what to do" and when he says when he finds young Jyn "My child, come, come. We have a long road ahead of us". Like Filoni said, this is a Saw who's 2 years away from when we see him in Rogue One, so we still have potentially more appearances from Saw in the future of Rebels that will get him to become the old man we see in Rogue One.
