There will be a Clone Wars panel at Comic Con. Are new episodes coming to Disney's streaming service or elsewhere?

I highly doubt it. It's to celebrate the 10th anniversary with a reunion of sorts. Filoni surely has his hands full with Resistance (and secretly plotting to take over Disney/LFL as Supreme Creative Commander) to make more TCW episodes.

With all that said, however, I wouldn't mind seeing the Bad Batch arc completed.

With Disney, dreams do come true.

Here's a quick interview with Filoni. I wonder if the 12 episodes are some of the "best" unused scripts or simply the remainder of season 6. Obviously, I hope we eventually get everything - even the stuff that's already been published.

  • Ahsoka
  • Bad Batch
  • Crimson Dawn
  • Darth Maul and the Emperor
  • Death Star
  • Mandalore
  • Rebellion
  • Siege of Coruscant (leading into ROTS)
  • Ventress

What else do we expect these new episodes to explore? Sorry for the shitty list. I'm far from being the encyclopedia that E_CHU_TA! is.

I’m gonna say these 12 episodes will be the remaining stories on Ahsoka, given the poster with the Ahsoka clone trooper helmet indicates that.

I call some BS here.

This is about more than just #clonewarsaved

This is the early promotion and build up to IX as well as the Disney streaming service.

Willing to bet IX will feature Ahsoka, Ezra and Thrawn as well as Skywalker and Kenobi.

Maybe Rey will be trained by Ahsoka, or she'll school Kylo on his grandfather.

Most Stoked since the Episode VII trailer dropped.

I'm hoping we get the episodes they've talked about for so long. This possibly means Star Wars storytelling that had Lucas' input. Although I always feel like anything Filoni does has Lucas' input. They seemed to have a very healthy collaboration

During the panel, Filoni said that everything he knows about directing he learned from Lucas.

Bander, do you mean that souring over TLJ lead to this "fan service?"

I assume it takes at least a year to produce the episodes. So, I would say probably not.

In general, Disney seems to believe that most of what it does Star Wars-wise is "fan service" (even when its not received as such).

Am I an encyclopedia? I would say probably not. I don't know.

There's also the Cad Bane and Boba arch on Tatooine. Wasn't there mention of an arch about Dooku and his motivations?

I wonder what hasn't been revealed previously? Is there an arch about Obi-wan's back story?

In terms of additions: I wouldn't be surprised if Depa Billaba, Caleb Dume, Hera, Chopper, and the Grand Inquisitor poke their heads-in for a few moments.

J.J. mentioned that he liked the Clone Wars. But, he largely wants to do his own thing. So, I doubt it.

Also, I hope he leaves the animated characters alone as I don't think he would do them justice.

I think that the show's return largely has to do with Disney's need for a certain quantity of "new" content for its streaming site. And, thank goodness for that need.

:chewbacca:

Give us animated Underworld next, Disney. Please?

While these shows do take a long time to produce, are we to assume that we are going to see episodes that had already gone into production and got as far as the story/script and rough animation stage?

Thanks for the post. Based on Filoni's comments, the reboot could be in early stages. So, it may be some time before the episodes are ready for viewing.

BTW, the hanger shot in the trailer is from the previously unfinished episode "A Distant Echo." See the 44 second mark below.

The revival has been in the works likely since Disney announced their upcoming streaming service and may have started work since March, according to an interview with Dee Bradley Baker on SyFy Wire. And, that shot may look like it’s from A Distant Echo, but, the end shot is different because they’re looking up the Republic fleet in the finished shot unlike the Story reel.

Look, this is great, GREAT news!

I'm just happy for Dave Filoni, who gets to end this series according to his vision.

Anyone linking this to the fan backlash from TLJ is just uninformed. This revival has been in the works for at least a year. Filoni had an interview with Andi Guttierez back at Celebration 2017 saying how much he wished he could talk about future animation projects, but he couldn't. I believe he was referring to this, not Resistance (which we have heard virtually nothing about, even though it debuts in 2-3 months).

I also noted that the panel and story didn't say anything about a release date. I'd infer the Disney streaming service's debut date will correspond to this series' debut. Having a Star Wars property should be a key component to the streaming service rollout.

The Siege of Mandalore will likely take up 4 of the 12 episode slots. I'm not sure we'll see finished versions of anything we've already seen. George Lucas was still part of the storytelling when those episodes were in development. I doubt he'll get re-involved here.

I also think it's certain Ahsoka will be a central figure in at least one of the arcs that take up the remaining 8 slots. If this TCW season finishes off Ahsoka's story as it relates to Anakin, it will fulfill one of my wishes for stories in this era. Having the 12th episode of this season conclude with Anakin and Obi-Wan flying off to Coruscant would be the perfect way to end it.

This, along with some of the book announcements really shows the prequel era some love by LFL, something it has been lacking for the past 4 years. The Clone Wars has endured because it was beautifully photographed, had compelling and consequential stories, but also, it's presence on Netflix can't be underestimated. I'm sure it gained a significant audience beyond the 2008-13 lifespan of the show. If LFL put the 4 seasons of Rebels on Netflix, I think it would find similar increased fan engagement. But with the new Disney streaming channel coming, I don't see that happening.

The end shot could be a trailer-only addition. I'm not sure why Disney held back the titles of the 12 episodes. That announcement would clarify whether or not "A Distant Echo" and the other Bad Batch episodes are part of the 12.

Great news. In fact, the best news out of Lucasfilm in some years. Let’s hope they do this series justice...

Is "reboot" really the correct description of this? I mean, it's not like they are going to remake the entire series. That would be a major waste of time. My understanding is that this is a completion of the series, which is fine, but I'd be more excited to see Resistance done in this style. There is so much more ground (and space) to cover between Ep.6 and 7 than between Ep.2 and 3.

I agree reboot is not the correct term.

My hope is that Filoni keeps the ideas/scripts/storyboards that George Lucas did for these episodes as they were, but, the way they tell those episodes will be differnt (like in 90 minute specials). I feel Filoni changing or adding stuff to the episodes that Lucas may never get to see shouldn’t happen since Disney has a lot of blame on them for not using Lucas’s 7-9 scripts and making a sequel trilogy that’s essentially fan fiction.

Well, George Lucas recently did a Q&A screening with Dave Filoni of The Clone Wars episode “A Sunny Day in the Void”, so maybe he’s there to signal he is involved with these Clone Wars episodes.
