Wonderfully executed film from beginning to end. The goofy rom-com stuff is deftly goofy and "rom-comy." The suffering reluctant-hero trope is handled skillfully and sympathetically.
Mysterio's treatment exceeded my expectations in every way. Watts even nails the obligatory psychedelic reality-shifting sequences that come packaged with the character.
Overall, Holland sets the perfect tone for the film with his combination of earnestness, vulnerability, and intensity. Gyllenhaal and rest of the cast are all-around solid.
Sam Jackson's performance did seem a bit off to me. But, there's an explanation for that.
