i know the book is old news but i just finished reading it yesturday... im wondering if anyone here has read the book and what you thought about the story and any memourable moments...

anyway, i thought that jacques choice of cryptex code words for the first cylinder was hilarious... when creating passwords these days we are told to use uncommon words and combinations of symbols yet this highly intelligent and cypher minded person chose what would be in, most likely, the top 5 passwords used for a grandparent... his granddaughters name... this oddity made me chuckle.

otherwise i thought the book was really fun to read if not a little to repetative in parts... and had some great plot turns and story loop backs.

This book is totally the shit of of bored housewives and 20-something office secretaries who have nothing better to spend their money on than shoes, cosmetics and fashionista magazines.

remember the book is a fiction noval.. the front of the book says something along the lines of there are facts in the book... and this adds to the illusion of reading an actual account rather than a fairy tale and is also why so many people are in such a huff over the content... but ITS A FICTION NOVEL.

i really enjoyed the story and the way it was presented... yes the ideas where taken from holy blood, holy grail but every book written is inspired by something... just generally not as obviouse as another book.

I didnt work this out myself but there is a main character in the book, met half way through, named liegh teabing and its said that his name is taken from the authors of holy blood, holy grail... michael baigent and richard leigh... leigh straight from richards lastname and teabing as an anagram of michaels last name.

Take the a trip to find the Great American Dream in the great Red Shark, all you need is two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.

nomad, the thing is, Dan Brown believes everything he wrote in that book.

just adds to the conviction in browns writtings that i did notice in his book and inturn adds to the fantasy of the story... he can believe in santa clause all i care as long as he can write a interesting book about how mr clause caught misses clauses affirming her feminine by going down on an elf and the true origins of elfish blood... either way the book is going to end up in the fiction section of your local bookshop.

However, too many people are seeking "religious instruction" from the book.

so true - or even just have a hard time seperating from the fiction/fantasy... like my mum that was on page 88 of the book when i pinched it from her... now everytime i mention the book i reiterate the fact its a fiction novel... my mum tends to believe anything she reads or sees in movies... she was recently excited by my having applied for a air traffic controller job because she has seen the movie pushing tin (her only exposure to the profession) and said 'i know all about that job, 'very stressful and a lot of responsibility' are u sure you can handle it?.
