This was only a matter of time. As soon as rumours started swirling about Trank being a notorious ass clown on the set of Fantastic Four, you knew Disney and LFL wouldn't tolerate that bullshit and fire his ass. This was the graceful and classy way to handle it. Nice touch on letting time pass before making this decision public.
I'm sure Kinberg had a look at his buffoonery up close, which all but sealed his fate.
Would love to see Neil Blomkampf step into the SW universe at some point. I had a hope he'd direct episode 8 but Disney quickly filled those shoes with Rian Johnson. Meh.
I thought it was kind of odd for Disney/LFL to go someone with a really limited track record in the first place. Not that you need a prolific director with decades of experience to handle Star Wars, but I would have figured they would roll with someone a bit more proven before handing over the reins to such a huge movie property, even if it's just part of the Anthology series.
I'd be interested in seeing Anthony and Joe Russo get a shot at the SW universe, but I'm sure their plates are more than full as it is with the upcoming Captain America and Avengers films.
The real reason Trank exits has been revealed: his FF is the worst comic book movie ever and succeeds at being bested by the universally panned and objectively awful Tim Story films.
24 minute long youtube (I actually watched all of it) detailing how Trank went from Chronicle to Fantastic Four to Anthology and back. Fox hired the Trank to Chroniclize Fantastic Four and the studio got what they wanted. Unfortunately the cast was put in the uncomfortable position of having to explain why Torch is black and Trank's stereotypical twenty-something behaviour.
