I never was able to see the Imax cut of Clones. I've read some of the things that were edited out of it, and people tell me it is overall far superior to the original cut. Anyone who actually saw it have opinions of it?

I'm not sure if I like the idea of the Palpatine, Yoda, Padme etc scene at the beggining being cut out, but I certainly dig alot of the Naboo stuff being edited.

I don't know, I thought the cut was horrible. I didn't enjoy it very much. There were too many gaps and it was missing a lot of good character development. Then again, I actually love scenes like the picnic scene, which was cut out of IMAX.

I've only heard a few people claim it's better, most notably FatBoy Roberts.

Personally, I liked seeing AOTC in the Imax theater, but the cuts were jarring. I'm not a fan of it. It sacrifices way too much of the Anakin/Padme story.

It's nice to hear that IMAX has found a way around the two hour limit so this extreme editing shouldn't be required for any more cross theatrical/IMAX features.

I can definetly agree that the movie could work without some of those scenes. The middle of AOTC is painfully slow as it is. Maybe they will do something of a "hybrid" cut for the SE DVD.

Anakins dream scene was fucking aweful. I'd pay money for it being out of the movie.
But this the only thing I like about the IMAX versions.

How the hell can it be good to cut down an already cutted down movie?

i too enjoyed the imax cut better. but then again, it could have just been the super large, ear blowing theater experience

but i did prefer that cut.

* The first scene with Amidala, Organa, Yoda et al in Palpy's office is gone.

I'd keep that scene, but cut out the "Greedo hologram", and the part where Yoda says "seeing you alive brings warm feelings to my heart".

The portion where Jar Jar greets Obi and Anakin at the elevator up through the "awkward reintroduction" of Anakin to Padme was removed. The scene starts with Obi/Ani talking about how they're going to find the person responsible, etc.

I would also cut the Jar Jar intro scene,going from inside the elevator, to Padme turning around. and another cut after anakin says "we're going to find the person responsible, I promise" to then a close up of Kenobi saying "what?!" then another right after Anakin says "security is not for jedi" back to Keobi saying "we will do exactly as the council has instructed".

After Anakin makes kouhoun sushi and Obi leaps out the window, the end of the scene where Dorme' asks Padme if she's alright was trimmed off.

Not a big deal.

A minor trim: the part where the assasin droid (to which Obi-Wan is clinging) tries to scrape Obi against the building was removed.

I would keep that in, but remove the parts where he almost runs into the "what the.." and the bitching aliens.

The rest of the Coruscant chase remains intact

There are alot of snippits I cut there, where they get shocked with power beams, and the animation of just avaoiding the large ship..along with tweeks that have some dialogue.

In Padme's quarters, a minor trim of Anakin playing with the floating ball and (I think) the part where he says he's ready for the trials.

Some of Anakin's immaturish whining i'd snip..and the ball as well.

The discussion between Obi-Wan, Mace and the floaty Yoda was removed.

I'd remove this as well,but in another part of the movie insert the Mace/Kenobi docking bay deleted scene.

On the train, the tearful goodbye of Dorme was trimmed out of the rest of the scene

Never bothered me I guess.

The library scene was completely removed.

I'd rather remove the Dexter scene than this one..But some of Dexter probably has to be left in to make sense.

When Anakin and Padme arrive at the Naboo Spa and Resort Island, there are quite a few minor trims - the part about "here, everything is soft and smooth" to the hand touch and back rub was clipped out.

Sounds ok

As far as the rest of the Naboo scenes go, the only ones that were left in were the dinner table scene and a much abbreviated fireplace scene. The "I'm haunted by the kiss you never should have given me" is one of the exorcised lines. No "sound of music", no picnic and no Shaak-riding.

Sounds about right, I do some chopping on the fireplace scene, but no matter how you slice it, it's difficult, there has to be a significant amout of footage left in or the "improbable" romance seems even more so.

On Kamino, the portion of the scene where he heads back out to his ship to have R4 send a message back to Coruscant was trimmed out.

I'd keep that in.

Boba's firing of the Slave I cannons was trimmed out of the fight

The Anakin "a sheet, a dream, a moan" - scene is gone. It goes straight to Anakin in his meditative "Vader-esque" pose on the balcony.

Good choice.

On Tatooine, 3POs introduction of Anakin/Padme to Owen/Beru was cut

Never bothered me.

In the Confession scene, the beginning part in which Anakin comments about "the shifter broke. Life seems so much simpler when you're fixing things," was cut. NOTE: The ending of the Confession scene is the original ending (ie. without Padme's "...is to be human" line).

I'd cut some of the dramatics out as well...but keep enough to get the point across.

Dooku's entrance into Obi-Wan's floating cell was trimmed off, as was the end portion about "it might be difficult to secure your release".

I'd keep both in.

The scene in Palpy's ofc where he manipulates Jar Jar to consider making the "emergency powers" motion in the Senate was removed completely.

It actually a poor scene,I cut the "Ree Yees" guy out but the manipulation has to be kept in to make sense.

Yoda and Mace's conversation where Mace states that their abilities to use the Force are diminished was cut out.

I'd have to look at it again, but I think it's ok.

On Geonosis, there is portion of the scene after Ani/Padme exit the ship, and R2 wants to do the same. The part where C3PO and R2 argue, and 3PO says that he knows all about humans was trimmed off.

Didn't bother me.

Factory scene was shortened by numerous quick cuts and edits. A couple of the cuts we caught were the shots where C3PO hanging by his fingertips and the 1st "teaser" of molten metal where you see the cannister iris open and drop a load, only to find out that it wasn't Padme's container.

There is a way to totally remove the whole "droids" adventure" in that sequence..and in the Geonosis Arena.

The final battle, as far as we could tell, is completely intact

I'd remove the "you're going to pay for all the Jedi you killed today" to just "we'll take him together, you go slowly on the left...",also I'd cut the lightning bolts being shot and blocked by Kenobi" and the part about "master Yoda hold you in such high esteem" and keep "surely you can do better"...The Yoda vs Dooku Duel has many variations in the way it could be cut.

A note: not a cut, but a switch: after Padme falls out of the transport and the trooper arrives to help her, it is the version where she grunts and just says "Uh-huh," when he asks her if she's alright.

People make a big stink about that, but she says "uh-huh" in a pained way,so I keep it in, but cut out the second "no".

Thanks for the info on the IMAX edit, Fatboy. I never got to see it down here for some reason.

However, looking at that list of changes/cuts I'm glad I didn't. I like a lot of that stuff you've listed.

I can see how it would be better. Lucas and Kevin Smith differ in that Lucas is very gentle with his editing. But since it's his money paying for the movies, he is justified in making the movie he wants. I agree that both TPM and AOTC had a lot of extraneous scenes in them, but he wasnt trying to make a slam-bang movie. His sense of film making comes from a different time, and he makes movies very much in the old, pre-MTV days of movie making.

I prefer the normalt theatrical cut and really didn't like the IMAX expierence at all. I though it was a waste of $10. Although most of the cuts didn''t bother me, only the Palpy scene at the beginning and the elevator scene felt wierd. The rest was smooth cuts.

I saw the imax cut at the local IMAX.

It was sooooooo much better.

Quicker pacing made the movie flow much better and most of the cut scenes involved crappy dialouge.
