I've just seen the trailer for this and it looks like this is going to disappoint many fans. Gaudy sets, gaudy costumes. Eek!

Let's hope its not as bad as it looks and it doesn't end up being another Evita - long music video.

I dunno...they have changed all of the colourful masquerade costumes to black and white and they aren't even using the Paris Opera House for the filming...?!

It looks...well, cheap. :(

;)

Maria Bjornson, the original designer, was a well-known opera designer.

It looks as though they are including the background on the Phantom too - which was that he was a circus freak and brilliant architect. They have added a bit of sword play to Wishing You Were Somehoe Here Again.

And who would have thought that Minnie Driver was an opera singer?...

Phantom of the Opera is still the most impressive and atmospheric opera I've ever seen. However my calculation is:

PotO + Hollywood = :jfc:

It doesn't look like it has captured the feel of the theatrical version.

Oh yeah...it looks like a Hallmark production.

They've released the first sound clips from the movie - including Mdm Giry talking about how she saved the Phantom from a freakshow ( a new edition to the movie). The other clip was the music for All I Ask of You: all I can say is that it sounds like an amateur production. Emmy's voice doesn't soar and Patrick Wilson sounds like a teenager.

Errr...I'm dreading this movie - especially after the tragedy of Evita. :(

Official site is up. The two leads seem to have trouble reaching thier notes. There are some really cool shots from the movie...but it still looks a little Hallmarkish.

Full trailer is now available.

I hate Gerald Butler...he sounds like one of those American Idol contestants that doesn't even make the first round.

ARGH! :chewbacca:
