I got tired of seeing people sign up for this forum and repeatedly asking "durr how do i downloaded the movie?"

I'm going to give you clear instructions that hopefully even the mentally retarded (that's you) can follow.

:chewbacca: Of course, it is assumed that you are downloading this DVDrip because you own the original recording and desire a digital copy for your computer. :chewbacca:

Step one:

Visit Bram Cohen's popular site to download the BitTorrent software (it's free!):

The Link is here > HOLY SHIT CLICK ME! < The Link is here

You should get a page that looks like this:

Image

Since you probably use Windows click on WINDOWS INSTALLER.

There you will find a list of servers around the world. Pick one near you or don't. It doesn't matter.

Up will pop a prompt asking you to open or save. Save the file and open it.

Image

After a few seconds BitTorrent will be installed on your computer! My goodness, that wasn't so tough!

Now with BitTorrent installed on your computer click this magical link

RIGHT HERE > http://www.suprnova.org (search for star wars dvd)

BitTorrent will open and ask you where to you want the file to go:

Image

Find an area on your hard drive where you can save a 1.4 Gigabyte file. I'm sure you won't have difficulty!

BitTorrent will now start allocating space (checking existing file) for it to map out the files. Don't worry it's perfectly normal. It's also normal for this to take a little while and slow down your computer temporarily.

Now BitTorrent will start finding other users to connect to and the magic of download and uploading will begin! Wow!

Depending on your connection, and roughly how much you upload in return, downloading Return of the Jedi may take anywhere from 6 hours to 2 days. Since time is not exactly an issue here I hope you understand.

The download is 100% complete you say? Great!

Now, find the area of your hard drive that you saved it to in the first place.

Image

Inside this folder you should see several more folders containing:

CD1, CD2, Sample and Subs

Open either CD1 or CD2 (these are the folders you want).

Inside will be a collection of wacky files ending in .r01 and r.02 all the way up to r.47.

Image

These are Rar files and you need Winrar to open them.

You can download Winrar from their website right here: http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar34b3.exe

Now double click one of these files (.r01 or .rar whatever). After a little waiting Winrar will open.

Image

Choose the option "Extract files" and select where you want to put your Return of the Jedi DVDrip.

Wait a few minutes to extract and you are done! That wasn't too hard was it?

---------------------------------------

"Help! I can't play the file! "

Try downloading the DefilerPak "a minimalist collection of video and audio codecs".

http://hellninjacommando.com/defilerpak/

---------------------------------------

"Why helo thar i cant take screnshots plz he;lp  "

Try opening the file in Media Player Classic

http://www.divx-digest.com/software/media_player_classic.html

Click File > Save Image

If you have PowerDVD you can click on the camera to take a screenshot as well.

Is this faster than using mIRC? I used to know how to use mirc but I can't be bothered going back and relearning it again...

It's in most cases alot slower than using IRC, but it's a fool proof way of downloading it for those who have no prior knowledge of using IRC...

I have a question: DivX for dummies ;)

I have the rip and it works, but a friend of mine doesn't have any sound. Which codec is used and where can he download it?

Pretty sure all you need is an AC3 codec. :meatwad:

okay so I am a newbie here, and yes I just found out about the site. I pledge here not to make stupid posts and lame questions.... well... other than this one, but I promise it is the last.

I have been trying to use bit torrent for months now, and this is the absolute first time I have had any luck establishing any connection. My question is this:

is there a way to resume downloads after hitting cancel, or god forbid, a computer crash? As long as you choose the same directory to download the file to, will it just resume where it left off?

Just reopen the torrent file, save to the same location. It will check the existing file to see if it's good or needs to have something redownloaded, then it will continue. HOWEVER, if you have a good download speed going I would recommend letting it finish...sometimes it takes a long time to reconnect to the tracker or it may never link up to as many seeders giving you a slow download. BUT, if something happens, you can pick up right where you left off.

-Todd

Thanks Todd. That is what I suspected. It is just that I started the download, then realized I needed to free up some HD space first.

Mine was doing that too but it sped up to around 30k after a while, still not as fast as I'd like but I'll just leave the download going.

I just hope it is up for a while. at the rate i am going, i believe i should finish with all four some time next month. that and it is bringing down my connection to a slow crawl. I have uploaded nearly twice what I have downloaded. I know this is supposed to stop leaching, but I swear, I am not getting anywhere on my file, but am providing alot to others. With broadband, I am just not used to downloads this slow, especially for 4 gig files. Pages are now downloading at dial up speeds. THe wife isn't too happy either, as it takes her 15 minutes just to check her email...lol.

then you should use azureus instead of bittorrent. it is faster and you can keep your upload low by setting a max. of kb/s upload.

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... p_id=84122

it works about the same as bittorrent, it's just i little more advanced.

I use Azureus myself, but not only is it much more advanced, being able to limit your upload speed is bad for BitTorrent.

You want to know why your download is slow on Suprnova? Because lots of people aren't uploading a thing, thus screwing you over.

yeah, but with some providers you have an uploadlimit, like with mine. so I upload what I can, but as soon as I'm nearing my 1500megs a month I put my upload on 5 kb/s.

http://www.videolan.net/

that is the best video player out there. it will play most any thing without the need for lame-ess wmp codecs and other annoying crap. sound will work just fine as will the video. do note reds tend to look blury on this player, though. it will play most video files.

Faid, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for this thread. Your instructions are clear and concise, with lovley humor, and I had no problem with the download. The explaination of how long it was going to take was key because I'm very impatient and with you saying that it would take two days was very accurate.

I love your avatar, by the way. It's time for a sexy party! Family Guy 2005!

It's weird the same thing is happening to me after I've tried to extract it again.

edit: I believe the problem has to do with fucking around with the subs.

I redownloaded vite-swa6.rar again and it worked fine.

PM me if you need this file again.

Your guide has a error, when you say open up any of the .rar .r01 etc. that is not how you do that, to be error free you MUST open up the .rar then click extract.

The torrent you're using is probably being tracked by a site that you have to register with. Of course, without any more information than "some weird URL," it's hard to say for sure.

The login page says that the *open* signup has been shut down, and that I need a member of the site to invite me there. Then there's some donation thing at the bottom...

I'm desperate...really...
