Another Quigon Jinn Thread

Hi all,

Newbie to this forum. Love reading all the posts. I have a dumb question or maybe I am getting old and forgetful: I thought the answer to why Quigon Jin (Liam Neeson) did not disappeared when he was killed in action was supposed to be answered in AOTC. Does anyone know why he needed to be creamated like Vader in ROTJ instead of disappearing like Obi Won in ANH ??

Ok...been thinking...here is my simple explanation: Good Jedi disappears into thin air and to "Heaven" (like one of those Christian rapture theory). Bad Jedi has to be burned/creamated (like burning in Hell). For what it's worth...I think it is pretty simple...

in the PT they havent yet figured that they can obtain the higher state of force spirit or some bs like that

isnt this sorta like the 2 views of the Force, ala unifying force. Qui-gonn thought of the force completely different than yoda et al. Even though he hadn't perfected the whole ghost image thing, he was able to retain his essence in the Force when he died.

Maybe Ep3 will shed more light on this and lead yoda and obi-wan to study how he can do this. Hence, after 20 years of looking at the forice from QG's perspective, they are able to do the whole force ghost thing.

Yeah, it's interesting how the PT has flipped around some of the assumptions we had from the OT. For instance, we always assumed that Yoda's comment about "luminous beings" stemmed from ancient wisdom, when in fact we're now learning that "Force ghosts" are a relatively recent discovery. And we always figured Vader's special TIE fighter was more advanced than the others, when in fact it more resembles the older Jedi starfighters. Kinda strange.

If this were true Qui-Gon wouldn't have been considered a good Jedi, yet Obi-Wan holds his values. It would have to be something worse. I posted a longshot theory on Sifo-Dyas here.

ArisSlatr...I started reading the thread you pointed out...very interesting concept. However, my theory may still hold. What if Qui Gon was a bad Jedi previously and he had "seen the light" and converted to the good side. His begining was bad and "tainted" so he could not die the way of Yoda and Obi Wan. Hope to see some answers in ROTS.

I always thought the reason that a Jedi would disappear upon death was because they would willingly give themselves to the Force when they died (ie. Obi-wan and Yoda). I would assume that Qui-gon didn't disappear because he had alot of things to deal with, such as this spikey-headed Sith guy stabbing him in the stomach and this whiny little kid that he has to train, thus the reason he didn't disappear.

here's my two cents...

I once heard this breakdown on Qui-Gon's name

Qui = Chi (chinese or japanese term) = mystical power, force

Gon = Gone

Jinn = "jinn" is a word meaning evil spirit in India

So, if you put those together, you have Force-Gone-Evil Spirit

Does this mean that Qui-Gon is bad. Not necessarily. Someone mentioned earlier that he views the force differently than the other Jedi. I think he became a little bit disallusioned, and his ability to use the Force diminished. After all, his master, Count Dooku had already left the Jedi order and became a sith.

So then what does Dooku's name mean?

Dooku is Japanese for Poison. Although I think it's spelt Duku or something.

My lingering question is how Anakin learned this ability. Or perhaps he's simply that powerful in the Force that he needed no instruction?

Or he's the reason it's possible in the first place.
