It looks like he hangs on for dear life, and then... jumps? Falls? Hard to tell... you can see his stand-in having to keep the same pose between takes too.

cause by the time we see the actual movie that scene will have been played a million times so they are freshening it up for the actual movie

I've a feeling the "I don't feel" rumour came from this moment in fliming.

There was a rumour not so long ago that had Anakin hanging from something with Obi Wan trying to save him, post-duel, sating something like " anakin, take my hand or you'll die..." and Anakinrefusing to be helped and replying with " I DON'T FEAR DEATH..." then letting go and plunging into the fiery abyss....that way Anakin is making the physocal choice to give up the physical Anakin and take on the mantel of vader but it also shows vader chost to become what he is rather than be lifted to safety by his firend.

Luke's suicide is one of the most powerful moments of the OT and has not yet been echoed in the PT.

Anakin giving himself over to his destiny in this way is very dramatic. And unexpected.
