 - on the ANH commentary, Lucas explains why Han brags about "parsecs" as a measure of speed.

Crazy George wrote:And there's uh, one of the concepts that is sort of controversial is the fact that when Han Solo talks about getting from point A to point B. He talks in terms of 'parsecs', which is distance rather than time. The premise being that in order to travel through Hyperspace you have to plot a course around all of the stuff. You know, all of the uh, planets and stars and everything. So that the fastest way between two points is a straight line and it's up to your navi-computer and your navigations skills. That's what makes you go fast and in the particular case of the Millennium Falcon, the Millennium Falcon has an extremely sophisticated navigation system. So its - the reason it's the fastest ship in the galaxy is not because it actually has speed but it has navigational skills that allows it to go from point A to point B faster than anybody else. And, of course, that was never explained and people got very confused by it but if you follow the story, I think you would figure it out - that speed is determined by distance. I mean, it's the speed that you get to a point is the distance you travel. If there's a lot in the way and if you fly through something it'll, obviously, destroy you. So the idea is you got to plot a course around everything to get there in the fastest route.

Thanks mcdermd! And I suppose that when the stormtrooper hit his head on the door, George explains that it was on purpose in order to reveal that he is a clone of Jango Fett who did the same thing in Episode II... :whateva:

 No mention of it. During that portion, Ben Burtt is talking about all of the offscreen sounds in the trash compactor.

Yeah if you tried late last night, it wasn't working. It wouldn't have mattered if you had gotten in there anyways, cuz the right bot was not there anyways. I wasn't able to get the third file last night, so i'm on the queue for it right now.

Hey - they changed Ben's scream in the desert. The one that he uses to scare off the Sandpeople.

Have a listen:

Right-Click, Save As ...

Then change .jpg to .mp3

I noticed that this morning when I listened to the commentary. I thought "eh, WTF was THAT?", rewound it, changed the audio track and played it again. That was just odd. Is that what a Krayt Dragon is supposed to sound like? Freaky.

Well, the old one was kind of confusing. I never quite understood what was going on until I got a lot older. The new sound makes it a bit clearer of what is happening.

I wonder if this is one of those changes that will make sense after Episode 3? Just a shot in the dark, but perhaps its not the call of the Krayt Dragon and instead something from Episode 3?

Yes I was talking about Obi-Wan's lizard. Anyways, I just actually watched the scene and the sound works a lot better in context of the scene than as a strict sound file.

Right-click. Save target as. when the save-to box opens, there is a box underneath the file name box that says Save as type. Click it and click "all files". Then save it as whatever.mp3 rather than JPG. works fine.

whats with the bright blue hatch opening on the escape pod when it has crashed? never noticed that before and cant find any logic behind it either(unless it was just a bluescreen prop!) only watched up until the arrival of luke but it looks and sounds amazing manynew sounds throughout and if u can isolate the rear channels u can pretty much have yourself an isolated score!

still goretastic!

one other thing it is rated PG for violence & "mild language"
where is the languge? there isnt even a hint of swearing! a few dispariging words here or there but surely shit/dick/tit/bloody/bastard/piss/ is the sort of thing that would constitute "mild lanuage"?

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Rating: PG - frightening moments, creature violence and mild language

I don't remember any mild language in that film either. I guess if they aren't talking about clouds, kittens and balloons, then it's mild language.

My favorite rating so far is the AVP rating. PG-13 - violence, language, horror images, slime and gore

Slime. Isn't that hilarious?

Let's not forget "What the hell are you doing?!"
Also, Owen says "...there'll be hell to pay."

As for the new Krayt Dragon scream, it sounds kinda like the Brachiosaurs from Jurassic Park. Interesting.

Well I just watched the first half. :)

What the hell happened to Luke's lightsabre when he's training on the Falcon? ITS GREEN! THEN BLUE?. Someone at ILM needs a kick up the ass for that one.

I'm not sure i like the new Obi-Wan scream. I think that its to tie in with something in Episode 3. I read somewhere that the Jedis make a high pitched scream just as they go into battle to scare their oppenents. Guess i'll just have to wait til next year to find out.

Apart from those 2 minor changes i think this is the best version yet. Super picture and the sound is amazing. It's been like watching it for the first time again.

im not sold on the new scare sound either, its weird they add anakin to jedi etc. and i like all the new changes but... they change one sound effect and it throws me off! probably cause im so sad iknow every sound effect and which speaker i t should come from and when it changes it freaks me! same wi6h a few new instruments being clearer in the mix its great but freaked me out!

Actually, the old sound was the same one that ILM used for the Dewback, maybe Lucas just didn't want some peaceful herbivore to sound like a huge dragon.

...

George Lucas has confirmed the rumor that Luke got in Doc Brown's time machine, went 3 years ahead, grabbed his lightsaber, and came back.

It's because sabers in the 70's were made with 'mood ring' material. Green means "happy" :D

This is really nitpicky, but the explosion of the Death Star has been changed too, it looks like it has more of a purple tint and now has a white ring of fire instead of red:

Okay, just got done watching the rip. Here's a few things I noticed.

1) The opening space battle really gave my subwolfer a test. I swear I felt the entire room shake the second the Rebel ship got hit by the gunfire from the Imperial ship. Very impressive.

2) There's still the minor color drop outs during the first few seconds on the opening overhead shot of Tatooine. I also noticed this a few other times during the movie, but the amount isn't as bad or noticeable as previous remasters have been.

3) The matte lines are visible as plain daylight around the Imperial fighters during the escape from the Death Star battle.
