Sidious Fighting

Postby FuManchoo » September 22nd 2004 2:19 am

Hey all. I was just looking over the dvdrip of the Return of Darth Vader. Has anyone noticed that there is a shot about 2 seconds into the introduction of Sidious striking down someone? Who do you think this is? Sorry if somebody beat me to this, but I didn't see this in any other posts.

Hmm, I've only watched the doc once so far but I didn't notice any shots of Sidious, I thought it looked like Anakin with his hood up. Sidious will fight in the movie however.

I'm fairly sure that is Anakin, not Sidious.

oh u mean the lightning effects its palps displaying his power to anakin against mace windu and the cloak thing is probably like ROTJ, think luke about to strike sidious and vader steps in, in this case mace is about to kill palps becoz he knows he is sidious and anakin blocks it with his saber, u know where he's got a pissed off look

Sidious does fight in RotS. He bests Yoda, later on in the film.

Sidious has always looked like that. He has just hid it with the force. And yes, he is going to beat Yoda. THis is old news.

I agree with Dark-Oracle that Sidious looks damaged maybe because of a force lightning power fight with Yoda, at which point Sidious thinks he destroys Yoda.

If Yoda and Obi-Wan knew that Palpatine was Sidious wouldn't they make a last ditch effort to destroy him, before just relying on Anakin's kids to come of age for a rematch.

In the OT both Vader and Sidious don't even consider that Yoda trained Luke, all they know of is Obi-Wan.

Force lightning fight with Yoda is what fucks up Palpatine?

How about a simple reason, like the dark side itself mutates Palpatine over time.

I think it´s been hinted at that Palpatine is an ancient creature that uses the Force to hide his appearance. If anything, Yoda might manage to cancel out that ability, thus forcing him to wear a cloak for the rest of his life.

Only by fans and the occasional insider. There's never been anything offered as proof from anyone and it certaily hasn't been hinted at officially. I think the "Sidious uses the Dark Side for face illusion" thing is lame, I think the whole reason Palpatine can go unnoticed by the Jedi is that he never uses the Force. He has others use it for him. And the guy is rotting, you see the marked difference in his appearance between TPM and AotC and now to pics from RotS....the Dark Side is corrupting his body. I really think it's as simple as that.

The text under one of the BTS pics seems to suggest otherwise. Palpatine shows Anakin an artwork depicting an ancient setting and apparently "recalls better days.." How can he recall something he didn´t witness himself?

Nope, I´m going with "Millennia-old creature" on this one.

Well... here's a crazy theory. Perhaps he was trained by a *Sith.* ;)

No kidding. I'm pretty sure that Darth Maul had a lightsaber and wasn't a Jedi or trained by a Jedi. :?

No. No he's not. Reread his statement. Here... I'll quote it again.

One thing is for sure... Sidious uses a lightsabre. That means he was A) Once a Jedi or B) Trained by a Jedi.

Note the choice of the word sure, indicating certainty, and the limit of two choices relating solely to Jedi training. I see no mention of 'possibility' or 'may be' in his post. I fail to see any room for misunderstanding. His post was quite specific, and though I replied to it mockingly (unnecessarily so I admit) I simply refute his conclusion that since Sidious will wield a lightsaber that he can only be a former Jedi, or was trained by one.

That said, I agree that it is theoretically *possible* (however unlikely) that Palpatine's background may include that scenario.

Darth Vile wrote:I can take it from the 'newbies'

First off, though my post count is low, having only just registered today, I am by no means a newbie. Second... this is spinning totally out of hand. I posted originally *in humor.* I even admitted in a later post that my mocking tone was unnecessary. But I did it because the statement sounded rather absurd at the time.

So... for the sake of pointless argument...
You are putting words in my mouth

Explain how... *exactly*... that I am putting words in your mouth. The only words I used were your very own (apart from what I wrote pointing out your words).

Look at your post...

"One thing is for sure... Sidious uses a lightsabre" - you state this as fact (one I agree with).

"That means he was A) Once a Jedi or B) Trained by a Jedi." - you are directly connecting the choices with the factual statement above. And the two choices you provide are exclusive to all other theories. This is a simple matter of logic... IF/THEN. IF it is true that Sidious weilds a saber, THEN IT MUST ALSO BE TRUE that he was EITHER a Jedi, OR was trained by one. There's no ambiguity in your statement bacause you haven't left any room for it.

I'm not arguing that your theory is or isn't *possible.* I only took off on the statement that, though you perhaps didn't mean it to sound so certain and absolute, it was unquestioningly *worded* that way. If you say you meant it as a possibility... cool. No argument from me. I really don't care to genuinely argue about theories and speculation (good or bad), because it's pointless.

And having now spent more thought on this silly argument than I ever intended with my first post, I'm just going to let this go. I certainly didn't intend to make my segue from lurker to poster go this direction at all.

:heavymetal: Cool! Sorry for the tangent. Back to business then. :)

On the Sidious = Jedi theory... though I can see it as a possibility, I have to say that I'm not all that excited by it (from a dramatic storytelling point of view). We've already got 2 Sith who were former Jedi, so I think to have Sidious *also* have such an origin appears kinda 'routine.' It's generally believed that Maul is a full Sith... no Jedi origin. I'd like to see that Sidious is also. If his background is at all revealed, even alluded to, I think it would be spectacular if he's presented as the ultimate product of the Sith tradition.

/2 cents

I have a hard time with the concept of Palpatine being Syfo-dyas.
First, Palpatine is a senator in Ep. 1 who has risen to some degree of influence in the Senate. This eludes to the fact that he has been a senator for some time. The idea of him being a well known senator and a well known Jedi Master at the same time is far fetched at best. He would have to come up with a senatorial cover story every time he went on a Jedi mission. It's much easier to cover his clandestive Sith duties, than lead two public lives.

Just my thoughts.

GL changed the script for AotC, changing the name of Jedi Master Sido-Dyas to Sifo-Dyas and making a real deceased Jedi. The Kaminoans were supposed to tell Obi Wan that Master Sido-Dyas (ie: Sidious/Palpatine) came to them and ordered the clones on behalf of the Jedi and Republic. That was changed to Dooku using the name of Sifo-Dyas.....because Sidious doesn't do his own dirty work. His sidekick does. So let's just put an end to Sidious being Sifo-Dyas. Forever. And ever.

I don't buy the idea that Sidious is a fallen Jedi, simply because to be a Jedi you need to be a good person at some stage of your life to be accepted and I want to believe that Sidious has been a bad mf since before the womb. Just as Anakin is supposed to be the Christ figure of the saga, Palpatine is the AntiChrist he's been sent to stop. Palpatine is the culmination of a thousand years of Sith training in secret and them passing on their knowledge and practicing survival of the fittest until we come in at TPM. Maybe the Sith have an oral tradition of passing stories down from generation to generation, which is where his talk about "better days" comes from. Maul certainly seemed to know what they were seeking revenge on the Jedi for in TPM, one can only assume that Palpatine told him about it too.
