Damn - that is intense!

Seriously though, I don't quite understand why it's being "TF.N like" saying that this looks a bit computer gamey. I think it's the glowing colours that make it seem a little like that to me and I am by no means saying that the CG quality isn't up to scratch. I'm sure in motion it will look very different anyway, as we've already seen in the teaser trailer.

'preciate it spoileriffic, as always! :)

Yeah, I like it. I hope I know who is who and care even slightly about someone in the ships so it's more than just a whole load of things flying randomly around.

Y'know, like RotJ rather than TPM...

Also, there shouldn't be fire in space. The explosions in Star Wars are way too big, being that there is no oxygen in space...but they sure look cool. :heavymetal:

for those not in the know... g. lucas has stated and is fully aware that he has broken laws of physics in his films... the main law broken would probably be the fire without oxygen law but there are others - at the same time he states that this is the star wars universe - not our common universe.

That's too difficult to see. But look below the bow of the Star Destroyer to the far right of the screen. Looks like a huge C.I.S. ship getting bombed.

It does look pretty close to the surface of the planet - so maybe still some atmosphere- smoke/fire would be possible.

Well,

It looks like a video game to me as well. Oh well, my expectations are very low for this movie...especially after Ep2.

I miss actual SETS and acting between people...not computer images.

I know, Lucas should INVENT star destroyers and actually shoot the space battle in space, and then paint over earth in the frame to make it look like coruscant. That monster.

Damn, this forum is a million times better than TFN!!

The reason why this pic may look like a video game to some is b/c its a still and often still images of CG just look kinda funny. Particularly lights, engine lights, blaster bolts, lasers, etc., etc. Take the lightsaber fights for instance, if you freeze frame the image on when the blades connect, it looks like someone just drew it up in photoshop....basically because they did.

But when this frame is going by in 1/24th of a second, it'll look totally natural.

"I miss actual SETS and acting between people...not computer images."

This is a pretty ignorant statement.

Have you ever shot a movie, been on a movie set, or seen a movie being shot?? People forget certain things about movie filming such as, movies are shot completely out of order, sets are rarely complete, lines are overdubbed, actors are often only looking and responding to a camera and not another actor etc. etc.

Things people forget about the OT:
Carrie Fisher was looking at a cardboard circle when Alderaan blew up
Mark Hammil couldn't hear Yoda speaking
Darth Vaders voice, if it could be heard at all, was some goofy British voice

People can talk about acting in front of bluescreen or CG all they want, but they are full of crap, acting for cinema has always required a whole lot of imagination on the part of the actor.

Exactly, either you can act or can't, a valid excuse for imitating cardboard should not be "I'm standing next to a blue wall" or "I have to imagine i'm talking to something that isn't there".

correct me if i'm wrong but a good actor should be able to use their imagination, and adapt to the personality of the role...If bluescreen is the excuse, there is probably a bigger issue.

I'm not a fan of CG to the extent the Lucas uses it, but I'm just tired of hearing actor bitch that their perfomance wasn't up to snuff because they didn't have a 100% completed environment surrounding them, complete with effects.

You honestly don't think Portman was believeable in Garden State? I think Porman can do an excellent job, when it's something she's excited about. That said, I need to get out and see Closer before it's gone.

Aside from the prequels, Portman seems like a decent actress from what i've seen.

The problem with her as far as the prequels go is that she was probably out of her element making these, whether she couldn't grasp the character in TPM and what Lucas wanted her to do with it, or she had a hard time putting her heart into these movies because of the script and or the dialogue..either way, it's hard to imagine signing on to do a Star Wars film with a 3 word director like Lucas, or reading these scripts and find yourself suddenly disheartened with what's going on once the cameras roll.

None of those things including blue screen is a valid excuse for a professional actor to act like a piece of wood, great actors find a way to make it work and put forth their best effort once they've agreed to do it every response from Portman regarding these films of late has been one of professional curtosy.

For what it's worth she's mentioned her favorite and most challenging of the three so far is ROTS, but she's definately glad to be done with these, that much is clear.

Actors typically have even less to work off then theatre. Theatre performers have a huge advantage in that their performance has continuity. They "get into character" once a night. Film actors do it multiple times per set up, and are often looking at nothing but a camera and its crew. So, for a film actor to complain about bluescreen is pretty ridicolous. It basically means they are either a whiny lil mofo or a terrible actor. In the case of Ewan and Liam Neeson, I think we can conclude they just feel like whining every once in a while. We all know Ewan has fun on the set, but he has to keep his status as someone who can also be in art films, and thus has to belittle Star Wars every once in a while. Portman is an inconsistent actor. Who knows if she'll be shitty or brilliant in any given movie.
