Dark Rendezvous was a small letdown because of all the attention paid to the teenage Jedi clan rather than Yoda and Dooku.

All this praise for Wal-Mart sickens me.

Especially since it's being generated by one's ability to quickly get their feverish hands on a copy of a science fiction book. :mad:

With well over 2,000 stores worldwide, Wal-Mart has yet to have a single location that's staffed by any kind of unionized employees. It is well known for using brutal and illegal methods of keeping its employees from being able to organize for better pay, benefits, and working conditions.

It is America's chief driver for compelling businesses to ship their good manufacturing jobs overseas, primarily to the human rights abusing China. The workforce there is routinely kept under tight control by a police state, so workers' wages/benefits can be kept low, and conditions can be even more inhumane than they already are in the U.S.

The irony is most rich, the supposedly "communist" China is the PERFECT place for allowing capitalism to run rampant.

Wal-Mart simply does not want democracy in the workplace in its own country, and is willing to ensure that it doesn't exist in foreign countries as well (would one care to guess what it gives and to WHOM it gives political donations to? Does one think that Wal-Mart gives money to a politician who supports human rights, or to those who are against such rights?).

So yes, "God love Wal-Mart," as it sure needs a LOT of love/prayers to become an instituiton that is even remotely democratic. Better yet, do something even more effective than praying, and write a letter to their multi-million dollar executives, and ask them to change their evil, greedy, money grubbing, and misery inducing ways.

I just hope that the fast delivery of science fiction books and the fact that their items there tend to be a little bit cheaper than elsewhere won't keep people from doing the right thing.

Our country is in the corporate toilet as it is.

What could be more"Star Wars" than talking about how imperialism works? On the first video release of the Special Editions of the Star Wars Trilogy, Lucas went on record as stating that he actually drew INSPIRATION from real life situations, such as how the North Vietnamese, with their vastly inferior technology and destructive capability, was able to defeat the military juggernaut known as the United States military. Princess Leia's hairstyle in "A New Hope" was directly taken from a hair style commonly worn by female anarchist combatants in the 1936 Spanish Civil War against Franco's fascist grab for power. So, these anarchist fighters didn't exactly have cute hair, but they did put the boots to fascism and imperialism, and that's always a good thing.

Now I'm not saying that I agree/disagree with the man (especially with having family members/friends being veterans of the Vietnam War...er, or should I say "conflict"), but my point is that if he's willing to draw parallels to what his saga is about and how it compares to the real world, then I am as well. See, I'm following the Star Wars path as laid out by The God of All Things Star Wars.

Hope this revealation of where he drew/draws inspiration from doesn't ruin your Star Wars fetishism.

And just so you know, the vast majority of the militias you recommended me to save my "anti-WTO rhetoric" for are far right wing and zealous religious organizations. Trust me, I have zero interest in joining their severely misguided cause. But "thanks" for the recommendation, I'll pass it on to the first Mussolini I see.

i dont care if you get the book. you seemed to put a lot of emphasis on getting it for free and you being lucky. It is my personal preference that I don't read the book before the movie. I think movies are better than the books anyway. If you post the book March 2 before everyone else, then I will eat crow. She indicated that that book should be out early March. March 2nd I think.

I'd love for that to be the case, but all signs (including and especially RH.com who are the distributers) point to an April 2005 release. Going from all the previous releases it will be the second week in April.

The Australian release date is exactly the same as the US one, and for both previous Prequels we've gotten it ahead of the US by between a couple of days and a week depending on the distribution services. These are some of the few SW books that are printed locally, so you can get them quickly. Any of the major retailers like Dymocks, A&R, B&N, Borders, etc. all will carry it and allow pre-ordering, including online for some of them.

As to LoE, I'm not sure. It's listed here to be released at the same time as in the US, but TAS didn't come for 2 months back when AotC was released. Your best bet in ensuring you get LoE quickly is to go to someplace that imports books, like Galaxy in Sydney, or places like comics shops and Dymocks in some cities (definitely in Canberra, not in Sydney, Melbourne will depend on pure chance) who can get them within a week of the US release at the latest.

Got the book yesterday, fucking awesome. The only confusion I have is it leads right up to Ep 3, but wasn't Clone Wars Season 3 also gonna lead up to Ep 3? So the Palps kidnapping will be the same or different? I really recommend this book even to non-eu fans

LOE, CW Season 3 and Reversal of Fortune (Hyperspace Webstrip) all cover the kidnapping, from various viewpoints. Some details are different between the versions. Paul Ens, the author of the webstrip explained it:

The kidnapping of Chancellor Palpatine will be told in at least three mediums, most likely four. Despite best intentions and planning, the roles of Stass and a few other characters are different in the various sources. Because "Reversal of Fortune" had the luxury (or burden, depending on how you look at it) of finalizing last of all of these sources, I was given leeway by Lucas Licensing to pick and choose among the other tellings.

In my opinion, "Reversal" is the best possible compromise... but I have chosen to err on the side of the telling that I think will be viewed by the greatest number of people.

Perhaps in late May, once you've seen everything I'm talking about, I can write an elaborate editorial outlining this issue in greater detail.

Until then... "trust me".

Or "you'll find the truths we cling to rely greatly on our point of view"... or something like that.

I've posted a little on this topic previously, but the short version is that LOE and Clone Wars Volume 2 differ in some details of this account. In the end, I think most people will become more familiar with the animated account, so "Reversal" is following that more closely... though a keen eye will find evidence from both accounts.
