The pilot has hit the net. I must say I was expecting a re-hash of Family Guy but the jokes are pretty funny and original. The format is very similar, but the "fresh" characters help it original.

I'm hoping both shows don't suffer from Seth McFarlane doing two shows at once.

I saw a Real Audio version of the pilot about 6 months ago and it seemed okay. I think I would have appreciated it a bit more if Family Guy wasn't coming back. I did like the goldfish though.

Granted the show isnt the best ever it is still funnier than 90% of sitcoms on TV.

the family guy is one of the funniest shows on tv imo... the most removed from reality show out there, maybe the reason why i laugh so hard is that my reality is not the best at the minue so watching something so far removed from reality is refreshing and fucking funny.

Adult Swim is awesome...I watch it nightly...Tom Goes to the Mayor sucks ass...and I'm not a huge fan of Harvey Birdman...

Home movies, Mission Hill and Undergrads have to be the best animated shows of their time. Home movies is well respected but Undergrads and Mission Hill not so much. The geek content is huge in both !

It's great, the type of post 9-11 humour wouldn't work too well in Family Guy except when the opportunity allowed for it.
The character lineup is similar to Family Guy, but the combination works, I don't understand why people blast it.
Great potential.

I'll give it another shot to see if it was just a lame pilot, but my hopes are not high.

I watched it the other night and the Alien bugged me. His little shitspolsions every 5 mins wasn't funny. It seemed like Family Guy in a different setting. The goldfish made me laugh a bit. The rest just seemed re-hashed from other shows.

How to make American Dad watchable:
1. Change all the characters to likable.
2. Move the show to Quohog, Rhode Island.
3. Drop the half-assed political jokes or replace them with some that are actually funny. (the god phone call to GWB could have been hilarious but ended up fairly lame imho.)

Anyway, it was only a pilot. . . Maybe I'm being too harsh. . .
