pretty interesting. we get to see some nice shots. we even see a lil bit of shaak ti's scene. she's kneeling in front of the greenscreen meditating. then they cut to a quick shot of them pullin a mask off someone. could that possibly be hayden and the "crispy anakin" mask? kinda looked like it when you only see the neck.

The electronics and articulation in those masks have come a long way in 6 years.

The Neimoidian masks for TPM were last minute rush work. The Neimoidians were supposed to be CGI and meant to resemble battle droids, a design later refined and reused for the Geonosians in AOTC. A last minute decision made them animatronic masks.

From "The Making of Episode I - The Phantom Menace", by Laurent Bouzerau and Jody Duncan:

The Neimodians were added to Dudman's slate rather late in the creature build, however, since they had been designated as CG characters until just twelve weeks before the start of principal photography. "Again," McCallum explained, "it was a matter of economics. For as little screen time these characters would have, it was faster and cheaper to do them with actors in masks and suits."

With little time to build the characters, Dudman and his team created animatronic puppet heads that were capable of lip sync, delivering them just one day before they were due to appear on set.

i have faith that they only use camera angles on the character that will make him look more like the emperor we know, there hasn't been any crappy footage released yet

the work on the neimodians looks really good...the faces are so much more articulate people will think it's cg

there was also an interesting plot detail that was slipped which i don't think we've touched on here...it sounded something like they (the nemodians) disabled the droid armies deliberately at the request of (what sounded to me like) palpatine...

It's a makeup test in a normal lighting situation, which is far different than a movie set. There's an oldish Star Trek book which has a great example of before and afters for characters shot for tests and actually on a set, and the huge difference.

I think the Shaak Ti kneeling shot was for the Grievous execution that was supposed to take place in front of Anakin and Obi at the beginning of the film.
When they showed the rough rough 9min intro to film execs in late 2003, the scene was still in.

i too have faith in the final on screen version, it is all down to the hood and the lighting and the eyes and ians portrayal. i bet palps makeup in ep3 will be a long discussed fan niggle, but pass everyone else by (though it could never fully replicate the 83 makeup) just found it funny that the dismissed pictures are now turning up on camera, whats next? verification that the 2 baby dolls are actually the twins and the tarkin shots were from on set?

you have to also take into account that ian mcdiarmid was a lot younger in 1983...his facial features have changed since then, making it harder for them to replicate the make up he had then, like pjvader said...

if you watch that Shaak Ti moment again, you can actually see Anakin and his robes in the background of the shot !! Watch it again and look for him at the back of the shot. I have a screen grab from this , but not sure if i can post it here cos it has the ever-so-holy Hyperspace logo on it !!

This must mean that he does indeed finish her off whilst she is meditating

Where, specifically?

I double checked for Anakin, but I didn't see anything.

i believe that if you look behing her, on the left side of the pic (just behind where the camera is) you can see the bottom of Anakins robes...or is it a door ??!! Hmmm....now I'M confused...
