Whoa. Awesome, thanks.

I'm suprised that "ancient holocrons" are mentioned. Sounds like somthing that would be mentioned in the book, but not the movie.

Interesting that Sidious makes it one of Vader's objectives to get the Jedi Archives. Is that likely to make the movie Tern?

We've seen a picture of this, the one where Anakin is bowing down to Sid with Obi looking over Hologram

Hey, long time lurker, first time poster, so don't bash too hard OK?!

This is my favourite spoiler report in ages. It's really evocative of the OT with Sidious' "Good....good" line. And watching Obi Wan collapsing could well be one of the most tearjerking scenes EVER.

I'm picturing a falling to his knees, holding head in his hands type collapse
I too, would like to know what makes the disguise scene and mustafar slaughter a love/hate type deal. Tern didn't mind riling up the whiners with the Solo reports, why not rile them up again? ;p

EDIT - Nevermind. Apparently the dialogue makes or breaks the slaughter. Boy I feel competent!

Cool report. Thanks Tern. This will be a very dramatic series of events in the film - just after Order 66, the proclomation of the Empire, Anakin's visit back to Padme, and then Obi-Wan and Yoda's return to the temple and then this. The last 40 - 50 minutes of the film will be FULL.

So Sidious comes to the temple then for sure? Maybe it's to put up "Under New Managment" banners?

I doubt holocrons will be in the final film. It would be a funny promotional tie in though... Blockbuster presents the new Sith Late Fee policy, don't return your holocrons and videos to our archives and we'll sick Vader on you.

If they show a holocron before or after saying holocron, I'm pretty sure the average viewer would go, "Oh THAT'S a holocron."

Besides:

parsec

womprat

gundark

utinni

Dantooine

C'mon. Holocron could make it in.

I don't think Holocron will make the cut. To me, that falls in the same category as a kyburr crystal. I just don't think ol Georgie would let that EU stuff slip in. Perhaps he will, but I doubt it.

The future of Star Wars lies in the EU. Episode III will be the last 'canon' movie. Perhaps Lucas wants to invest in the EU and give it more credibility. Moreover, it's not the first time Lucas uses EU stuff for the movies: think of 'Coruscant' or even 'Sith' (don't know if 'Sith' is EU?).

Holocron or not, the dialogue between Vader and Sidious is excellent.

Although it would be trippy for the EU fans if there were a scene of Palp' explaining to Anakin who Darth Plagueis was, with the use of a holocron.

Or even a scene with a bunch of jedi training with lightsabres following the movements of some ancient jedi master.

Well I can put some of this debate to rest. I knew Pablo had mentioned something about this in his Q&A on SW.com...
Quote:
Will we be seeing the Jedi Holocron in either the new Clone Wars cartoons or Episode III?

Nope.

Quote:
Are there any Sith Books, Holocrons, Parchments, or Artifacts in EP3?

No.

In the novelizations of ANH, ESB and ROTJ, Darth Vader was referred to as the "Dark Lord of the Sith." So it was always canon (sort of).

i'm also quite suprised that they actually used the term "holocron" in the movie since its more firmly in the territory of the EU, although now that its mentioned i guess that makes it part of cannon innit? :)

cant wait to see Obi-Wan's reaction. i know McDiarmid will shine in this film, but i think so will McGregor.

I don't believe holocron will be mentioned for 2 reasons. 1) as I quoted above, sw.com says it won't be in the movie and 2) I just don't think it would make any sense. Yes it would be cool (ok really cool), but most people that go to see the movie after the first weekend would be sitting in their seat going WTF during that scene. I think George knows he has a much larger audience than just us few geeks who post on message boards. I believe one of the major complaints about TPM, and to an extent AOTC, was that it had too much stuff that went over most viewers heads (with all the talk about trade blockades, goings on in the senate, etc). Ol Jorg won't want to make the same mistake again, and therefore I believe he will cut this piece.

If holocron makes it in (contradicting pablo's report), I'm willing to bet that quite a few people who are casual star wars fans would come home and do a search on it.

It would be a nod to those hard core fans and, if it WERE to stay in, I doubt it would cause too many viewers to lose interest in the movie.

Perhaps when Pablo put his reports out, this scene was done differently and Lucas went back and shot it.

Hasn't Pablo's reports been wrong about a couple of things since they've come out? I thought a couple of things were contradicted by things done in reshoots. But, I'm probably wrong.

It's possible that he is wrong. I haven't followed too closely what he has said in his Q&A thread, but I just happened to remember those bits for whatever reason. At any rate, I'm just the messenger and wouldn't mind seeing the holocron in Ep 3. What I posted above is just my .02 on why it probably won't be in ;)

"There would be multiple Republic capital ships"

All I see are the Venators, m´kay. :whateva:

I also like some of McCallum´s bullshit:

"In this you will see why Boba Fett hates the Skywalker family."

First of all, he hasn´t even met any Skywalkers and won´t until he meets Darth Vader. Second of all, he´s probably not in the film. Thirdly, McCallum must be smoking some good shit, where can I get it? :bankheadbounce2:

Now, Holocrons were made by the film crew for inclusion in the Ep. II Visual Dictionary. That makes them pseudo-film-canon (or C-canon as it´s also known as. "Anything seen in the movies or said by Lucas is defined as G-canon".) They were cool as hell, a square Jedi Holocron with nice crystal exterior, The Great Holocron, soccer-ball shaped and seemingly very important (possibly contains the prophecy) and a Sith Holocron (pyramid-shaped, with dull brown edges and black sides, creepy as hell)

Hopefully this reference stays in the film.

Great Info Tern. As far as holocrons are concerned, they act as "Jedi Batteries" in a sense. Used for deep meditation, and revitalization in connection with the living force.

Um.. what's the big deal about Holocrons..? He says that the archives have been secured, and they will learn all the Jedi's secrets.. so obviously the average viewer will assume that a holocron is some sort of record keeping device. Makes as much sense as a womprat.. I think a lot of you are assuming that you mention a holocron would require the full on explanation of all the EU geek-tastic crap that goes with it.. Of course it wouldn't. George just said holocron because he was looking for a word other than book. I doubt George himself knows all the EU shit about it.. he's proven time and again that he couldn't pay less attention to that junk.

Lucas does keep some control with the EU and he sometimes participate in the creation of certain stories. Add to the fact that whenever he comes up with a new character, he checks that their name isn´t in any established source, so he avoids continuity-errors. (now of course this doesn´t protect the EU from being altered if Lucas feels like coming up with a different approach to something already covered in other sources.) ;)

Generally, official continuity is divided into G-canon and C-canon. G is the movies and anything additional said by Lucas. C is everything else that doesn´t conflict with the movies or other EU sources. S is for old sources that can become C if they´re referenced more than once over the years. N is the non-canon stuff (things that now contradict official continuity).

You learn something every day. :)

Funny thing, he´s viewed as a Hollywood director by people who don´t know and as an indie by Hollywood. The man can´t do anything right.

I also object to the view that films with big budgets and effects somehow can´t be "indie".

Frankly, I realise most of us are hardcore SW fans, yet the Prequels are far from being among the greatest films ever made. Yes, I am also including Episode III, no matter how great will it be for us. There are movies specifically made to bring out the craftsmenship of an actor and a director and Star Wars is not one of them.

Moroever, the Academy Awards have a distate towards Lucasfilm. AHN was developed within the bounds of Hollywood, but thereafter the links were broken. There might be a hope in the SFX department, but otherwise probably nothing. The score could be beautiful but since John Williams was already awarded an Oscar for AHN a nomination and definitely not an Oscar is unlikely.

Distaste is "Dislike or aversion"

Sorry about the grammar I posted that when I was half asleep, I meant:

The score could be beautiful but since John Williams was already awarded an Oscar for AHN so a nomination or an award are definitely unlikely.

Or, Lucas steals stuff from the EU and makes it Canon. Timothy Zahn selected Coruscant from a list of accepted names for the Imperial/New Repulic central system. Lucas, when doing the prequels, took Coruscant and made the "c" silent to make it more his. His original name for the system was something different. :)

I wouldn't exactly call that "stealing." It's more like adopting the already accepted name for his own creation.

It wasn't really stealing.. it was more like, there was nothing wrong with the EU name, so there's no reason to contradict it.. Had Abandon was probably never the final name anyway.. just in the script.. those things have a was of changing a lot..

Look, I don´t like many EU stories other than the general idea of what happens outside the films´ scope, but I do understand that Lucas respects the EU and doesn´t blatantly "steal" from it. He isn´t hiding the fact that certain things appeared in EU and then he got inspired from it.

Look at Aayla Secura, he saw her illustration in a comic, liked the design and put her into AOTC and ROTS. Same with the name "Coruscant", he liked it, wanted to preserve continuity and put it in as the name of the capital planet (which he did invent himself). They don´t hide the fact that these things were originally from the EU, in fact they point them out on the OS.

And he generally tries to work things out so that the EU fits in with the movies. If he didn´t care, he would just make up names and not check if they´re mentioned before in the EU.

He even went so far as to ask that there be no wookiee Jedi around the time of the Clone Wars, just so people wouldn´t ask "Why isn´t there a Wookiee Jedi to defend Kashyyyk in ROTS?"

And the line between G and C canon often blurrs, since Lucas pitches in with ideas and names. For instance, he named Rothana (the planet that delievered ships and vehicles to the clone army) to clear up the question of where the clones got all their gear. G and C form the overall continuity of SW. That´s it. (But nobody´s asking you to like all of it.) :)

Ah. Was wondering why a Wookie Jedi was never shown. I always thought it would be really cool to see one.
