THE CINEMA OF GEORGE LUCAS: book info about Revenge of the Sith

Postby Erik Pflueger » March 19th 2005 1:50 pm

Howdy, folks. What I am about to write is not of any great importance, but since I just came back from my local bookstore and found the long- expected book The Cinema of George Lucas, I thought I'd report the few Revenge of the Sith tidbits I read inside. They're only two, and here they are:

1.) It's now a matter of record that T'Bone got into a tiff with Lucasfilm over the picture of Lucas as a cameo extra. Well, in the index of the book, a skect that is an exact replica of the final photograph T'Bone showed us - along with a second sketch for a design that was not used - is seen. It is a drawn costume with a blue-tended photograph of Lucas placed inside it. And, amazingly, the name of the character is not Baron Papanoida as has been reported, but Baron Notluwiski. I don't know what to make of this, except to say that Poland is apparently well-represented in the GFFA. But it's the truth.

2.) It's reported in the book that the voice of General Grievous, recorded in post-production, is actually that of Gary Oldman. I know that it has been reported elsewhere that it was either Oldman, John Rhys-Davies, or Matthew Wood. Frankly, I don't know what to believe, but according to the book, it's the truth.

Anyway, that's what the book has to say. Hope it helps!

That doesn't mean there can't be typos and errors in it.

I think Roberts is probably right: who knows how many things have been changed since the book went to press? It's no secret that Lucas tends to go right down to the wire with the editing. But the casting of Grievous' voice? You'd think they'd know that, even if it is post-production...

Still, it's a good book, well designed and well illustrated. It's also pretty thick, with a correspondingly pretty thick price of $50.00. If you're a Lucas completist, this is good for you.

But as far as Revenge of the Sith spoilers are concerned, it's small potatoes.

Grievous = cold-blooded killer

Jar Jar = comedic sidekick

Use some common sense, people.

Romanian? General Grievous, the cold-blooded Jedi-killing vampire.

Actually, now I want to hear his voice. And yeah, he is coughing. His coughing might be like Vader's breathing.

The Cinema of George Lucas is a very nice book. I've had one for awhile and there's some great stuff in it. I believe Oldman backed out last minute because he didn't realize till very late that Ep. III was a non-union shoot. That's what I heard. Could be bull.

Note that the same publisher, Abrams, later this year is releasing Star Wars :365, which besides 1000 pix from all 6 films, comes with a CD-ROM containing Quicktime movies featuring 360-degree panoramas of the Ep. III sets. Abrams also is releasing Dressing the Galaxy, which details the costumes from the entire series.

I believe both debut in October.

Also SW Chronicles: The Prequels and the SW Poster Book are coming in December.

The Abrams book Probe droid talks of - 'Dressing the Galaxy'

(check this out) will also be available as a Numbered Limited Edition of 2,500 copies. This deluxe version consists of a cloth edition of 224 pages, and includes an additional 32 pages of Star Wars costume imagery printed on special paper and features six assorted bound-in booklets and inserts and eight additional gatefolds.

Accompanying this collector's edition is a Certificate of Authenticity signed by author Trisha Biggar, and a cast replica of a Wookiee belt buckle. All this is housed in an elegant, padded clamshell case swathed in an embroidered ribbon displaying royal markings made from the same materials as Star Wars costumes.

I'm speechless

Can't wait for SW Chronicles: The Prequels, the first one is an invaluable reference source

Thats why it was added in Clone Wars, to explain GG coughing (not like we needed it), just like the new arm anakin 'acquires'

Greivous wasn't fully fleshed out when Clone Wars Season 2 was produced. The coughing was added later.

The cartoon producers simply decided to add that little scene to closer align their version of Grievous with the finalized film one.

I heard that Grievous in the film will sound much like he did in Clone Wars volume 2. I'm not sure if Matt Wood did the voice or not, but I'd expect the voices to be more or less similar (especially with the tin sound).

The cough won't be distracting I don't think. It'll be an occasional cough and choke here and there....not: cough - 3 words - cough - finish sentence.

I don't think you can count on a lot of this, simply because of the track record GL has with changes...

After all, I'm sure some ANH promo stuff had Han shooting first ;)
