[photographs] ROTS The Incredible Cross Sections

Postby royalguard96 » March 22nd 2005 10:08 pm

Gentlemen, here we have some scans from the Incredible Cross Sections book for ROTS, which I was lucky enough to purchase yesterday.

In the first batch, we have the maimed Vader in a "bed" with Sidious and Royal Guards looking over him on the shuttle. We have other shuttle and Yoda escape pod pics as well. I will be more than happy to take requests on the other pages.

Interesting to note: Yoda uses two escape pods in this film. One to get off of Kashyyyk, which is being overrun by the Separatists, and one to leave Polis Massa for Dagobah.

Thanks to JangoFett2296 for his assistance in this project ;)

After the first 5 I sent Jango, we'll have 5 more. They will include:

Grievous' wheelbike and starfighter, the AT-RT and the V-Wing Fighter.

I apologize for the reproduction quality on these. The facility here is crude, but should be adequate for good spoilers

Not that the name is ever said on screen or anything. :)

Oh I agree there. Taking photos of the fold-out section, with their curved middles and all, don't really do the images justice. I've had the book since yesterday and haven't come close to really reading the whole thing. I just wanted to share some pics as soon as I could with you fine people. :)

So the "phantom menace" deleted the files from the Jedi Archives... That confirms my speculation that it was Palpatine/Sidious who did it. Not a major revelation, but nice to see it spelled out.

I think the main thing... its not a surprise per se... but watching Sidious basically take down 4 Jedi is gonna surprise us how badass he is.

Weve never seen him fight, and really, who has any idea, besides those whove seen the movie, how crazy badass he is gonna be.And i know im gonna hate myself for saying this, but im almost looking more forward to seeing that fight than the long fight with Vanakin and Ob1

Any chance you can post some scans or digital photos of the Venator (spelling?) Star Destroyer and closeups of the other Separtist capital ships (the ones pictured on the Iron Hand pages and/or any others you find). I know it's difficult to try to capture a detailed pic of a book this size, so anything that you can throw at us is very appreciated! Thanks again!

Oh, I also noticed from another thread that the books says the Venator Star Destroyer is actually longer than the Invisible Hand (it doesn't say this directly, but through the measurements listed for the two)...I figure this is a typo from authors, or is the flagship of Grevious really shorter than the average republic cruiser? ;)

I'm so impressed with the way the PT vessels are fitting in with the OT stuff. Chiang said it would be like this, and even though he's not with ROTS (bit like Mcquarrie taking a back seat on ROTJ) this looks awesome. It's really starting to hang together nicely now!

What about those Venator Star Destroyers...is the "red streak" through the middle really huge sliding doors for a full length fighter landing deck, or was this just thrown into the Clone Wars cartoon EP23 just for fun? I've searched through the trailers and photos of ROTS, but haven't yet seen one of these ships with those doors (if they exist) open. In fact, in the actually movie shots, it looks more like a paint job than sliding doors. Any verification or opinions on this?

Hey, Vader´s flagship in ANH was a common Star Destroyer, it doesn´t necessarily have to be the biggest ship to serve as a command ship.

This can´t be answered by you, since you don´t work for Lucasfilm, but I wonder if the Tector-class Star Destroyers mentioned in the ICS as being produced alongside the Imperator-class, are the same as the one briefly seen in ROTJ. It was highlighted on the Technical Commentaries site as having extra armor and no hangars.

Now the Tector-class and Imperator-class (later called Imperial-class) served the Empire for decades to come, according to the book, so it would fit the timeframe. And Tector is Latin and describes a Roman soldier who carried a big shield, so it would be a clear reference to the extra armor on the destroyer.

The note seems to indicate that both are a mile long (since the Tector´s lenght isn´t mentioned and they are both named in the same sentence), which also fits with the Tech Commentaries speculations.

That makes three properly named Imperial ship-classes in the OT: Imperator (Imperial), Tector and Executor. All we need now is a reference for the Communications Ship´s class (also in ROTJ, it´s bridge was seen in one scene), and we´ve got it sorted out.

All the info on the Venator-class Star Destroyers and scan/pics if you could. Any info on the other capital ships (I believe there are several Separtist capital ships mentioned in the Invisible Hand pages) would be very much appreciated, as well.

On a similar note, are there any other Republic capital ships featured in ROTJ or the ROTJ books/resources? Anybody hear of anything?

Victory-class Star Destroyers are mentioned frequently, and Mandator Mk. II-class Star Dreadnaughts. They also mention a Star Battlecruiser of unknown class called Questor or something.

I doubt any of them make it into the movies.

And like I said above, Imperator- and Tector-class Star Destroyers are under construction at the time, with production of the Venator-class slowing down. It´s basically implied that it will be phased out by the two above.

The Core of the Trade Federation Battleships ("donut"-ships from TPM and AOTC) were called Lucrehulk-class ships in a factbook from some years ago. I guess the class-name applies to the entire ship, as well. (Mentioning this since the battleships are in the opening battle, and some people like to know these things ;))

Sompeetalay wrote:There are three classes of CIS capital ships in 'RotS'.

- The Invisible Hand is a Providence Class Carrier / Destroyer.
- Now those long ships are Commerce Guild Support Destroyers (Recusant-Class Light Destroyers).
- The ships with the large fins (vertical & horizontal) are Banking Clan Frigates (Munificent-Class Star Frigates).

And like VT says, they mention some ships from the Republic, but I agree that most likely they won't be in the movie.

I think there are a 4th and 5th ship in the CIS fleet at Coruscant. The 4th is the already mentioned Great Donut-Class Battleship. The 5th can be seen in the following pic. It's a great shot because it shows all (parts, anyway) of the ships we were talking about.

http://www.jeditemppeli.net/press/EP3_IA_88784_R.jpg

This 5th ship is very long and has 3 rockets on the back. It can be seen on the very left of the pic, facing us...and getting destroyed. It can also be seen a little right from center on the very very top of the pic. It doesn't seem to have a lot of mass...just very very long. Is this the Commerce Guild Support Destroyer you were talking about, or are those the long ships seen surrounding the Invisible Hand (there are several of this type).

And there is NO way the Inivisible Hand is shorter than a Venator Star Destroyer....just look at the thing!!!!! Maybe my depth perception is off, but the Invisible Hand seems significantly longer than the TF Battleship!!! And isn't a Venator Star Destroyer supposely supposed to dock in a TF FantasticMotherOfADonut-Class Battleship?

You can also see in this pic that there are big red doors on the Venators.

I would still love to see a Cross-Section scan of the Venator Star Destroyer, though!

From the Cross-Sections description of the Venator Star Destroyer, it says that one ship carries 192 Eta-2 Actis Interceptors (aka Jedi Starfighters). Does this mean that...

1. There are more than 100 Jedi on each ship (extremely NOT likely)

2. Clones not only pilot the ARC and V-Wing fighters, but these Jedi Starfighters, as well (not really likely)

3. Although beautiful books, the authors really don't spend a lot of time varifying or thinking a lot on the facts. (REALLY likely)

Option #3 explains why the Invisible Hand is somehow shorter than a Venator...when all the shots from the trailers and leaked pics say otherwise. But they really are great books to look at...I just wish they gave as much attention to verifying the details as they do with the drawings.

Also, what's up with the 2 bridges on this type of star destroyer...I see arrowing saying that one is a flight control bridge, but I can't quite make out the other.....I assume it's the main bridge?

Actually, I think the big number shows that the Actis-class ain´t a Jedi-exclusive interceptor, unlike the Aethersprite-class. Makes sense, since the TIE fighters of the future will be flown by non-Jedi. It´s all about slowly phasing them out, step by step... :meatwad:

A small hanger? Are you sure? Was this part of a "spy report" or leaked photo? I've never heard of the Tantive IV having a hanger, even in ROTS...but I'm not sure, of course, because i haven't seen the movie. ;)
