i heard that too hopefully its still true, the only prob with live acton is it could be real bad! they can pretty much get away with anything animated but real live action is a different matter! doesnt mean we wont all watch it then buy the dvd though which is what they will count on! hell i even purchased the ewoks dvd!

I wouldn't be too surprised if the live-action TV show will be set after Ep3 and before Ep4 and be about the rise of the Empire and especially the Alliance. No Luke, no Leia (maybe cameos or mention of them.)

I was going to weigh in and say that it might be cool to have a post ROTJ cartoon since the actors are so old...but the more I thought about it...the less I thought it was cool.

I'm not so sure if the live-action is going to happen. With animation, anything can be done, and pretty cheap. But imagine having do a live-action show with crazy special effects every week. Either it'd have to be held back considerably CG and action wise, or it's going to cost tons of money to produce.

I'd like to see it, but only if it's done right. Last I heard it seemed like Lucas was very, very happy with the Clone Wars and was leaning towards only animation.

In the making of ROTS book, he makes some off-hand comment to one of his animators or something about the new half-hour animated series coming out after ROTS. Way better than than that twelve minute apiece crap.

Without getting anyone's butt in trouble, especially my own, I wanted to let you know that there's a "Star Wars" TV series in the works - because we've just got the contract for the new line. Barrage of new characters in the show that I've never heard of (sans a couple), but someone said it's along the lines of 'Young Indiana Jones' and it could have Mark Hamill reprising his role as Luke Skywalker for several episodes. George Lucas is involved, but only in the creative sense. A Lucas Film rep told another of the guys here that they're going to be testing a mass of young actors for the roles. I'm keen myself to find out who's playing [hint] 'the original owner of the Falcon'".

I think that a live action show would be cool. I've been watching a lot of Buck Rogers In The 25th Century and the original Battlestar Galactica lately, and there's a helluva lot of things there that remind me of ANH.

They could easily get away with making a similar series with Han Solo or Boba Fett, or someone completely new for that matter, in the leading role. And with today's technology they could easily make impressive sets, do x-wing vs. tie-fighter dog-fights etc. and it would all look great. I don't think it would ever become like Star Trek at all. That's the last space-series I would compare Star Wars to anyways.

The most important thing is that they get good writers and put focus on simple but entertaining stories. And I think it's important to not have too many plots going on over many episodes, it's much better when they make each episode good and interesting on it's own, so that you don't have to follow every episode. (although most of us will anyway) That way it will be like a cool little 50 minute movie each time, and you can go back and watch individual episodes without having to watch the whole series again.

From what I understand, the actual war is over by the end of Ep. 3, so it will basically just be rebels vs. imperials from then on, which wouldn't require as much CGI-work as a movie would. The fact that they would have to think pretty simplistic in order to finish episodes fast enough, would probably put them more back into the rather desperate and creative ways of thinking, that Georgie & co had while making Ep. IV-VI. A simplistic look would also make it closer to the low-budget production of ANH. So I am, in other words, very optimistic to a live action SW show. But animated would be great too!

Don´t think for a second this won´t contain alot of FX. And I doubt they will be making a lot of episodes, it will probably be more like several miniseries or something. Anyway, I can´t really picture a low-FX series. If ST:Enterprise managed what they did FX-wise on a low budged, the SW universe will be taken care of.

The Han and Chewie show would be great. I just dont know if I can deal with a Han other than Harrison though. Just think of the cool bounty hunter stories that could tie in and such. Thats a great idea mate!!!!!

You know, I would like to see the live action series revolve around Luke when he was a kid growing up in the moisture farm with his aunt and uncle, And with Obi Wan kind of keeping close watch on the boy as hes in hiding, I think it should fill in some of the gaps on how Luke knew about Ben before.

The TV series will be set between Episodes III and IV and be set during the rise of the Rebellion and the growth of the Empire. Hamill's involvement could be that the series is being viewed as recordings from the Jedi archive which would allow him to appear from time to time in the series.

This setting will also allow Lucasfilm to use characters like Boba Fett on a weekly basis.

I like the idea of a tv show and I LOVED the Clone Wars toon. The only drawback is that it adds more fuel to the canon war fire. Hell, maybe one episode will consist of Lucas at his desk going over each and every book, comic, videogame, etc, with "STAR WARS" stamped on it and telling us which is and isn't canon and his final statement to be "Fuck you all and thanks for making me one of the richest bastards in the industry!"

IF they are going to go with a animated series i'd like to see them serialize the Timothy Zahn trilogy, the ones with Thrawn and the clone Joruus C'borath. It's a cool story and would break down well too.

I'm all for a new star wars series be it animated, live action or both.

I think the Han Solo and Chewbacca idea is a cool one with Lando thrown in for good measure.

They will never do this for marketing considerations, but I would much rather have it set in a time far removed from the movies, either the distant future or the distant past.

Bring in new characters, settings and galactic situations. Make us worry about the fate of the characters and surprise us. You would also avoid having to worry about maintaining established EU continuity and risking alienating that part of the fanbase.

Those of you who have played KOTOR know that a kick ass story can be told without having little or no connections to the movies and still be recognizable Star Wars.

The KOTOR games are very enjoable, and very Star Wars-like. But through the whole thing I was always thinking "imagine how much more kick-butt it would have been had it been set around Ep. IV..." Absolutely nothing ever beats the inclusion of classic SW ships and characters, they're all legendary. You don't have to look any further than to the Jedi Academy game to see how uninteresting the time after Vader and the Empire can be, especially if you don't have a good character in the leading role. Most of the characters from the OT has already caught our attention, and would be interesting to learn more about.

I dug KOTOR I. I thought The Sith Lords was somewhat interesting, but felt the story just unraveled at the end into a nearly unplayable mess. They really should have given Obsidian more time to wrap it up.

Why can't they do a weekly live action show that has a ton of FX etc? Do it on HBO or something...12 episodes a season would be manageable and people would love it. I would rather see it high quality than on FOX or whatever and half assed...although I doubt it'd be totally half assed either way. It's still Lucas' baby.

And believe you me there will be an episode where Han and his trusty bud "The Chew Man" discover the truth behind that old addage "bros before hos." Just you wait.

i'd rather see the show on HBO, and you don't get stuck with commercials. even though i don't get HBO and can't get it (unless a new directv card comes out...), i'd have to wait for the dvds or grab it from torrents, it would still be worth it i think.

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire Mini Series

It would be great, and Lucasfilm would be able to get away with the smaller budgeted graphics. They would also be able to feed some of the Boba Fett fans mouths, as well as have cameos of the other stars.

I think it should be a young teenage Luke who's slowly developing strange powers he doesn't understand. And he and Biggs and a young lady from his high school who wants to be a Holonet journalist have all sorts of wacky adventures. Plus, it would have a 'darksider-of-the-week' thing going on, with Luke having to go head-to-head each week against a different threat. A crazy old hermit from the desert would pop in at the end of each episode with some sage wisdom and advice, a'la Wilson from Home Improvement.

I think this show would rawk!

I think that both KOTOR games did about as well as they possibly could have, given that they were trying to make a game that would take a long time to finish, as well as tie in a ton of characters and little side-quests. They wouldn't have made a very good movie, but shit, they aren't movies.

What I would like to see in a video game like that: just a normal Jedi game. You start out as an entry-level padawan (or even just some asshole off the street... so you get to use guns and shit early on, and later you get recruited to the Jedi), and then you progress through the ranks. Ultimately, you become a badass with lots of powers and sweet light sabers, and you fight Darth Whatever at the end. This would do away with the need for insomnia guy.

Except for the fact that your character in KOTOR II didn't have amnesia. He just chose not to speak about the past. He knew everything that happened to him and such. Plus he was in exile, so he wouldn't know much about current issues. WTF am I saying. Its a video game!

But yeah, there was, and probably still is, a lot of controversy about the "incomplete KOTOR 2." Like the ending was supposed to be longer and have a bigger climax before the final battle. For example, some people found mysterious dialogue within the sound folders (of the PC version) that weren't in the game.

I don't think i could stand to see anyone in the boots of Han Solo other than Harrison Ford. It would just ruin his image. That would be good for the animated, but I would hope they would just take a different time period with different characters. I like the idea of Mark Hamill coming back to reprise his role as Luke, occasionally. Like whenever the new characters return to the Jedi Temple.

Hmm...Jimmy Smits is use to TV. A role as Bail Organa would be awesome. And Aussie actors would jump at the chance to reprise the roles of Senators and other species.


Personally, the rise of the troublesome Rebellion, the upbringing of Leia, Vader tracking down the Jedi, the Emporer's fast-paced dictatorship, the outbreak of civil war....sounds like fucking good TV to me.

A Star Wars tv series has amazing potential, and they should do what Star Trek should have been doing for years - do an anthology show.
Imagine. Set your story in ANY time frame, ANY major situation you can think of. Don't be tied down to paying your cast ridiculous sums of money (because we all know George doesn't do that, he may make an exception for Harrison in Indy IV, but no one else) and change the story, location and timeframe every two/three weeks (doing the mini-arcs that Enterprise nailed so neatly in its last season. Shame they didn't bring Manny Coto aboard earlier).
Speaking of which, there's a hugely enthusiastic, driven and inventive producer/writer who I would be more than pleasd to see helming a Star Wars TV show. You'd have half the stories writen by him (without B&B sitting on his shoulder to hold him back) and a show also brought in on budget. I won't mention McCallum because I image him and GL will be off to the wonderful world of low budget cinema (yeah, RIGHT!!)
I think this would be HUGE, and an animated show running alongside would be an excellent thing to play off of each other.
Hurry up next year, I think this could be the start of something huge.

I think most the fans would be happy with a kick-ass half hour show like the clone wars. Live action, I smell bad news. I think if they did it, it'd be more of a mini-series, with like 5-6 episodes or something all tying together. That could work, but I really think small self-contained episodes wouldn't work as well.

Something like that in like six hour long episodes could be awesome. Especially since it could be more character driven. Still tons of action, but there could be tons of sideplots and bounty hunters keeping it interesting every week. Could be great stuff.
