Revenge of the Sith Changes
April 5, 2005

Anyone who has followed the Star Wars prequels knows that George Lucas changes his films up to the last possible minute. (Ask anyone who happened to see an accidentally released Episode I print where Darth Maul fell down the shaft in one piece.) Revenge of the Sith is no exception. Changes are still being made, so if you've already spoiled yourself with the comic or novelization, a source lets us know of a few things you'll find different in the film. Highlight to read spoilers!:

During the childbirth, the lower half of Padme's body is now covered by some device (added digitally). Thus the scene is now inconsistent with what you see in the books, older stills etc...

Padme's last words are changed and her funeral is now even longer. There are more mourners (mostly human) and we see that she holds in her hand that wooden thing Anakin gave her in Episode 1.

Check back for more later!

Maybe these changes are slated for digital prints of the movie, as opposed to prints on film.

Much like Anakin's robotic arm being seen in the digital prints of AOTC.

The padme thing is an interesting change...I wonder what his reasoning is. I personally liked the imagery of her laying dead on the table. I kind of have a hard time imagining those pictures and her having a cg machine covering up half her body. Seems to me like it would lessen the impact.

If they're going to change anything, they should cut the whole 'we can't find anything medically wrong with her' deal. That, or add in a reaction line by Ewan saying 'Try looking at her throat, genius.'

More likely, George would add Obi saying, "Aww.. she died of a broken heart."

It's more gay, therefore more plausible. :)

Ask anyone who happened to see an accidentally released Episode I print where Darth Maul fell down the shaft in one piece.

Proof they have no idea what they're talking about.

Maul was ALWAYS meant to fall in two pieces, but some prints went out with unfinished effects.

Retards like them are why some idiots on TFN still swear Maul was meant to live.

Hey, neither from TFN or this place but the cut where Maul falls
down in one piece is not an unfinished effect. They did that due
to the PG rating because Lucas wasn't sure if cutting him in two
pieces would give the film a PG only.

Again, it is not an unfinished effect, it was an alternative version.

Was it long and round?

If so, than we now know what she was doing when Anakin was absent, fighting at Outer Rim

Obi-Wan already knows Anakin was from Tatooine since he was stranded there for most TPM and saw him when they picked him up. Not to mention Anakin had already told Obi about his mother in AOTC.

Nah, if Lucas lost all his sense (the nickel-penny reference  ) he'd replace the Kashyyk footage with the Ewok battle!

Anyway, I wouldn't put *too* much stock in comingsoon.net, but the news isn't suprising to me.

And I swear I remember seeing Maul fall down that shaft in one piece when I saw TPM in Daytona.....

You most likely did--I remember reading at the time that both versions were released to theaters (most prints had Maul falling in half--some had him just falling) Like a poster stated above, I recall it being a ratings or audience testing maneuver.

As far as the whole Maul thing goes, I saw TPM the first weekend it was out (like all Star Wars movies) and remember no two pieces. But the next time, I noticed the two halves of his body falling down the pit and I remember thinking, "Hey, I don't remember seeing him in half the first time." I'm extremely critical of movies and pay attention to all aspects of them. I'm quite sure my thoughts do not betray me. (By the way, I live in Florida and saw TPM in Orlando.)

I remember the two halves...

interesting that they shot it both ways. You'd think Lucas could question the MPAA and say "if we have this guy falling down the shaft in half, will it make it pg13?"

Since there wasnt much shown in the way of gore, then I assume thats the reason there was no PG-13.

I saw it with the one piece and again with the cut in half, and didn't notice the change (I figured lightsaber to the torso meant slice in half). My mom never saw it with the cut in half and it drove her crazy for a long time, especially when she saw the sliced in half print.

Why not? The bitchy sheep always like more blood and violence in the film, and the bitchy sheep always want more Portamn in the film, and I would imagine most especially if the Portman material involves her vagina.. so wouldn't the combination of the two just be the ultimate for them? :monocle:

Exactly. I remember now. I saw TPM first in Daytona on opening night, saw Maul in one piece. Took my wife to see it a week later in The Villages, Maul split in two.

BTW I think the Padme edit has a lot to do with the craziness of ratings. Full-on childbirth would probably raise the movie to pg-13 or some such craziness.

About the changes in ROTS... It wouldn't bother me because this is no different from how Luke would have a blue lightsaber in the early previews then have it changed to a green lightsaber for the final cut of Return of the Jedi.

So, Birth Machine or not, It's only gonna take up like 2 minutes of screentime so don't let it ruin your perspective of the entire movie. This is Padme's version of the lightsaber color change, pretty much. So don't worry about it guys, breathe in and out and say to yourself, "It's just a movie, It's just a movie." and accept that you are just overworrying yourselves to death over something Lucas felt to make sure the movie can still be rated PG-13.

just my 2 cents.

GL already predicted and is happy with a pg-13 rating or so he says , so i don't think it is that. Plus I don't think they ever were planinng on showing anythjng graphic.
