New Episode III Footage from German TV

Postby Oski » April 17th 2005 4:32 pm

I hope it's legitimate to open a new thread for this, as I cannot offer anything, only point to something.
The german TV station Pro7 provided several new RotS scenes in their TV show Focus TV, just half an hour ago. You could see a craft landing in a sinkhole on Utapau, Grievous walking and parts of the opening battle. All these scenes were quite long, several seconds each, much more than in the trailers. I am pretty sure that these scenes are completely new. The show will be repeated Tuesday morning, 2.30 am CET (Monday evening in the US). If you have any contacts to Germany you should try to get your hands on this stuff. It was simply great to watch!

They even showed the first seconds of the opening battle after the opening crawl!

And they mentioned that the movie would be FSK 16 in Germany, which would be a R rating.

They were extremely satisfying to watch because they were not so short as the action scenes in the trailers. Other than that - Grievous' walking style was very weird. Hard to explain - quite fascinating. That's all I can say. Unfortunately I lack the technical equipment to digitalize the show myself.

I'm not really looking for a technical opinion. Just whether you thought the clips looked/sounded good, what your opinion of any acting/dialogue you saw was, whether the clips were the business. That kind of thing.

Ah soo... I was just planning to post the same stuff here like on TFN, but my account activation took me a bit too long, so yeah... enjoy the footage and if you don´t mind repost some mirrors on yousendit or whatever, I already got some complaints that people outside europe could not access that site. That link itself won´t fail you, it´s traffic safe and should stay up...

So yeah, I guess the space battle will rock pretty hard from the looks of it and grevious looks cool to me from what was shown there.

Did anybody else notice a couple quick frames after the Utapua sequence of vader in his chamber and someone else removing their hood? I couldn't slow it down wnough to tell who it was. Could anyone make it out? And I'm curious why that footage woulod be included in a piece about the cgi for the new movie.

Arghh. To late.

You are to fast guys. Hey HetH, you are not the only who had to wait getting activated. I also planned to post the same stuff.

This movie on tfn, is it the whole docu or yust the three new scenes.

If its the whole thing, then how did you liked the footage of the fan movie "tidirium"?

Funny? Rick is making a little joke about a nighmare he had. He dreamed he was eighty, sitting in a wheelchair and the kids of lucas called. they wanted to edit the sound of episode 1. then he woke up and realized that goerge lucas wont let go or something like that.

At 3:09 in you get to see the infamous "waterfall" scene that will open the movie. The camera pans down from the titles to see just the top of Coruscant with one destroyer and then Anakin and Obi-Wan's fighter fly into camera and then cruise along the top of the ship. Once they get to the edge - it's over and down into the biggest space battle of all time.

Even on my monitor and crappy rez of the video - it's most impressive.

I mean in what fuckin way did that look less then encouraging? I like the idea of Grevious walking like a eagle/bird. Dont forget that hes half machine half alien. It might be hard to walk for him ;)

I thought the space battle looks amazing. I mean it looks just like all the pics thats been floating around since months...so why expect something different?

Yeah, remember also that he coughs. So that's why he looks like he's having a spasm attack in that footage. Mace Windu did some damage to his internal organs with the Force in the last episode of Clone Wars. I thought the way he walked and the CG on him looked great. Too bad we couldn't hear the audio, that would have helped sell the scene. I love the very first shot of him covered in the shadows.

what has me worried about the Space Battle is the amount of CG required.

now I admit that quality wasn't great, but even so I noticed some bad shots... I just hope those shots are completed. But I'm sure with the great score I wont notice too much

as for Grievous, it'll probably work ok in the movie. I just think the chicken walk is fuckin stupid

well, to each his own and whatever, I just hate CG...

I'll save my proper whining until after I see the completed film, but I assure you there will be a lot of whining to be done!

as for Grievous, like I said I think he wont come off too bad in the film. I just hope he doesn't become just another annoying side character.

also, those vulture droids are really stupid... that's all.

That was from the "Creating General Grievous" webdoc. I'm guessing they showed bits of the webdoc to introduce GG

good lord people, its only april 17th. This CGI bashing needs to stop because its so 1999. We knew about this chicken walk thing at least a month ago, probably longer. If you are basing your opinion of the movie on how he walks then you need to gtfo cuz you are too stupid to be here. I liked the footage, cant wait to see the battle itself in stadium seating.

hey, there's no point avoiding the inevitable... there will be bad shots, and I'm gonna comlpain about 'em.

of course I'm not saying I wont enjoy the film... I couldn't be more bloody excited to the film.

I just think Star Wars deserves much better than crappy CG. It's just my taste. I think CG looks cartoony. The technology has not yet reached a stage where it can seemlessly be integrated in a large part into a live-action film.

I know a lot of people have no problem with CGI... and even embrace it. And I envy you. I wish I could watch a film like this and not be distracted by how unrealistic things look... but unfortunately I can't.

Like I said, it's just my taste. I'd much prefer the old OT style of Special FX over the new CG techniques.

joe_h wrote:But I bet you thought LOTR looked awesome, despite having a ton of CG?

Hell no... sure there are some great effects shots in those films, and even in AOTC there are some amazing shots! I do think that the VFX in LOTR were much better than AOTC however. But it definately doesn't look awesome.

anyway, I could go on for hours about how directors over use CG... but this aint the place to discuss it...

The German footage: overall I thought was good. The Utapau sequence was aiight, I don't really like that ship though, looks stupid. The Space battle looks exciting despite what I've said. And Grievous... I'll reserve my judgment until after I see the film. :)

On the subject of Grievous' cough, it started out as a joke. According to the Final Chapter of the Making of ebook, the day they were recording GG's dialogue Lucas had a cold and coughed into the mic as a joke. The sound technicians continued the joke by processing Lucas' cough into soundtrack. One thing led to another and it became part of GG's performance.
