Why did Palpatine give up Incom?

Postby Google » April 18th 2005 9:59 am

As we can see, the Incom ARC-170s are the predecessor to the X-wing, and are remarkable fighters. Much better then anything Sienar was putting out at the time, in my opinion. so why did Palpatine give up on Incom, and just basically hand it over to the Rebels on a silver platter? He gave them ammunition...Why?

Argh!

Here we go, now you're gonna say "TFN" or something, but I have a question that I'd like answered and I don't like TFN's forums.

Incom made the ARC-170s (you know, the 6 winged ships the clones fly in ROTS). The ARC-170s appeared to be superior to Sienar's craft at the time, and were immensely superior to Sienar's craft in the Galactic Civil War. My question is this: If Palpatine was in control of all of the Republic's resources, why did he just drop Incom at the start of the Empire and decide to go with the inferior Sienar? That was a dumb move on his part.

WTF! How is this a thread about nothing?! I'm not allowed to ask serious questions regarding the story of Star Wars?!

I could swear I read in one of the EU novels about this. Apparently the X-Wing was being developed for the Empire, but Incom's proprieters decided they didn't want to support the Empire and so they pretty much donated the X-Wings to the Rebellion.

The Sienar is actually much higher quality. Incom equipment looks cool, but is actually pretty crappy. Incom performed worse on 83% of the performance tests administered by the IMEC (Imperial Military Evaluation Center), including top speed, blaster range, and pilot comfort.

I made all that up. How the shit is anybody supposed to know the answer to that question?

I was just trying to figure out what you were talking about.

Trekkie questions like "Why is the AC-60/4 replaced by the XYZ-69Q?" always make my brain hurt.

I thought there might have been an answer in an old piece of EU trash somewhere that said why the Empire wasn't working with certain companies.

I dont see why Palpatine just didn't send someone in, i.e. Vader, and persuaded them to make what he wants. He did it for everything else up until that point.

That's what I was thinking... Palps could've had Vader and an invasion force land on Incom's headquarters or something, blow shit up, do some aggressive negotiations...
