We're doing our own marathon on our 12 ft movie screen. Ah, brings back memories of our LOTR marathon.

Dude, 12 hours is a long time for anything. I highly recomend...

I'd rather one theater show all six in a row in the correct order, like the LOTR Trilogy Tuesday.

Watching I, II, IV, V, VI, III in that order is kind of stupid.

I reckon the trilogy (edit: err, I mean Saga, Sextet, whatever) would be better seen IV, V, VI, I, II, III...

but yeah, it would be interesting to see them chronologically I, II, III, IV, V, VI

Chronologically is HOW GL wants them to be shown... but I'm sure people will always want the release order just for memories' sake.

they would need like 3 standard theatre film trees ( if that is the right term. we called them trees when i worked at a theatre) to hold all the differnt movies.. just easier to move people then move all the movies around on the tree.

who else feels that they should be viewed 4,5,6,1,2,3 when being seen for the first time? i think it still has a better effect that way.. and also the prequals assumed you already knew all about the star wars universe, and about jedis and the force, and who yoda is, etc.

The experience is what it's all about, man. That's what led all of us to where we are now.

And on that note, an excellent suggestion for full (first-time) cinematic experience would be to view them as thus:
IV, V, I, II, III, VI
Preserving the Vader-as-father secret and keeping the end as the end, while also allowing for all the nuances of SW to be introduced before seeing the prequels and for the prequels to be seen before ROTJ- the movie which is supported best by the prequels.

I do. I, II and III pretty much make no sense if you haven't seen the OT.

you'd be surprised, but some books really follow that chronological order.

Anyway, for example, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan went to "negotiate" with the vice roy in TPM. What you wouldn't know if you never saw the OT, is that they were going to force the settlement with mind tricks. You need ANH to understand this. Ofcourse, you'd figure it out eventually, but I guess you'll take the most out of it if you see the OT first.

But I guess I also prefer it more on a personal note. I recall seeing the last sagas of Dragonball Z first before I saw the first half of the series. I loved how everything pieced up together nicely, and I have that same thing with Star Wars now.

Ok... so let me get this. Not only am I a retard for expressing an opinion that differs from yours, but you didn't even read my reasons for viewing it that way. And note, I didn't suggest a pure 4,5,6,1,2,3. What I suggested was 4,5,1,2,3,6- for the reasons listed above. You may want to check them out before you question my mental faculties.

Now this is going to sound retarded but I never thought of viewing them in that order before. It's actually a very good idea because you get the big revelation and then flash back to how that big revelation came to be.

However, if and when I have kids, I may decide on the purely chronological route for their viewing... I'm not sure yet. It's a massive decision... Probably even bigger than actually having them in the first place!

On topic though, I was interested in seeing all 6 in one day until I saw they were leaving RotS till last. I'd rather wait and see RotS standalone and save money commuting to London till the IMAX chronological marathon they should hold... After all, they did it for AotC.

What I find "retarded" is when people say that one absolutely CANNOT EVER be allowed to see it in number order. That's just dumb. I don't think anybody here is saying that, but I've been elsewhere where folks have insisted that their brains will implode if they ever see it that way.

What would be wrong with showing Star Wars to someone who has never seen any of them before in order (Ep.1 - 6)? That might be a very interesting experiment, just to see how it works.

There's nothing wrong with watching it some other way either.

My nephew was born in 1983, and grew up watching the whole thing backwards. He saw ROTJ first on video when he was a kid and loved it, then saw ESB some time later. Then finally saw ANH, and hated it.
Now he thinks the prequels are cool, although he doesn't like TPM as much as the others. Now that he's almost 22, he's very much looking forward to see if the series works as a chronological story.

You have no idea how frightening that statement is to me. Goddammit, let the kids view it the way they want, backwards or forwards.

Let me give you an example:

Coppola made The Godfather and then The Godfather Part. II. Now, part II was a prequel to part I, and he intended it to be seen after I. Had Lucas wanted people to do the same, he would have called Ep. IV Ep. I, all the way back in the early 80s.

Let him decide which way they are to be (preferably) viewed. It´s his right and it´s every filmmaker´s right to decide over the intent and presentation of their own material (unless you´re under studio-pressure and get screwed in editing ).

Speaking of sequels which are actually prequels, I believe Temple of Doom was a prequel to Raiders as well. ToD sucked though.

For future generations, the 'surprise' of the saga isn't going to be the ESB one, it will be the ROTS one (fall of Anakin Skywalker, rise of Darth Vader). If you just forget all about the freakin ESB 'surprise' element then it makes more sense to watch them 1-6.

Exactly. The "suprise" is on Luke in ESB, not on us.

But see, Tony, sometimes it's hard to tell. I know most people like A New Hope A LOT better than The Phantom Menace but there is still those many people (that I know, at least) that would watch TPM over ANH anyday...alas...but I would probably show my child it 1-6 and not imply an evil Anakin because I think that if that whole "turn" in Revenge of the Sith is a surprise then that will make the Prequels seem a lot more interesting. And if you see them 1-6 for the fisrt time, when you watch 4-6 you'd constantly be like " Wait, does he know that he's his dad? Does she know that he's her brother? Oh my God, he told him! Oh my God, he told her!"

But whatever, now I'm just rambling

I know if I had seen Episode I first then I probably wouldn't be that keen to see the rest.

Most kids I teach think Star Wars sucks, bu their opinion is based almost entirely on Episode I. Most are unaware of the OT.

You know, I already stated my opinion, but I'll bow out of this "argument," as DKR made a very good point (which was later reiterated by the post of Lucas's comment in the "Making Of" book)- a point which I must concede. I'll stick with my preference, anyone else stick with theirs, cause like it was said above, "choose your adventure."

as Star Wars fever grips the capital for an unprecedented day of events celebrating
the entire Star Wars saga, culminating in the U.K. premiere of the eagerly awaited
Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, to be attended by writer-director George
Lucas and the stars of the movie.

Fans will want to prepare to have their lightsabres out at dawn, fighting to get a
perfect seat for a world exclusive: all six episodes of the Star Wars saga presented
back-to-back in a once in a lifetime "Star Wars Marathon" at UCI Empire, Leicester
Square. Beginning at 7 a.m. with Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope and ending with an
evening public premiere of Revenge of the Sith, the entire saga will be shown in a
single day for more than a thousand lucky fans.

And that's just the beginning! The day will be filled with never-to-be repeated
activities presented by Lucasfilm Ltd and Twentieth Century Fox – open to the
general public, so everyone will have the chance to experience the galaxy's most
exciting, action-packed celebration of the Star Wars saga.

At Leicester Square's VUE and Odeon West End Cinemas, individually ticketed
performances of Episodes I, II, IV, V and VI of the Star Wars saga will screen
throughout the day.

Star Wars fans will also be able to attend special free performances of
unforgettable Star Wars music presented by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; other
surprise activities are also planned. The 501st UK Garrison of Stormtroopers will
be on duty all day to ensure order is upheld in the Square.
