Star Wars Special @ MTV TRL • May 3 2005

Postby COS_Vader » May 9th 2005 10:23 pm

Although I really hate MTV, this might be worth watching. They filmed the MTV Star Wars party last week at the Ranch during the media screening. A guided tour of the ranch is planned.

http://www.starwars.com/episode-iii/release/publicity/news20050503.html

The only reason I found out about it was because the C3 X-Wing we helped restore was sent there to be set up at the Ewok pond on the way to the main house. ;)

They should've used Robert Plant since he's coming out with a new album and all. Everyone who breathes knows who he is, plus he's a big fan of fantasy and most likely Star Wars.

From the second paragraph in the above link from the first post......

"TRL's Star Wars special -- airing on May 13th at 5:00 p.m. (ET/PT) -- is hosted by MTV VJs Damien Fahey and La La Vasquez, and features a special performance by Good Charlotte, who are also passionate Star Wars fans."

Well, if MTV fucks this up like they did the Xbox "unveiling" last night, this won't be worth wiping your ass with. I was fucking embarrassed to work for the damn company after that stupid thing aired. I hate the MTV video editing style...."hey, we can't linger on that shot for more than 2 seconds, someone might get bored because they watched too much fucking Pokemon and ate too much ritalin"....It hurts my head to watch all those quick cuts.

By the way Tony, I'm old school punk, been in several hardcore bands myself, and I think Sum 41 is actually halfway decent as well. They really showed a lot of maturity on the "Chuck" album. I think Green Day has grown up very well too. The structure of "American Idiot" as a whole album is great. It's not often I buy an album and love the entire thing.

Anyway, since the name "Star Wars" is attached to this, I suppose I'll force myself to watch this shitty channel one more time....

Yeah, also, I've noticed they've licensed every song but the two 9 minute epics to every fucking movie and video game in the universe. But hey, they put their time in, let 'em earn some money.

If the radio is going to run any songs into the ground, I would rather hear that than some crappy Nu Metal or Brittany Spears. Fortunately I don't listen to the radio anyway.

The worst performance was by that twat Avril Lavigne

Oh jesus, I would've worn a paper bag on my head if I was in her backing band. She looked as excited to be on that stage as a hooker fucking her 100th John for the day.

Sum 41's medley was REALLY well done. I wish they would release a Metallica cover album and do mostly old-school (Justice and before).

I'd fuck her though.

Definitely :)

Yeah, I just hope Tool's new one is as thoughtful and deep as "Ænima" was. Man they really dug into some deep emotional tissue on that album, especially "Pushit","I cried when they played "H" and "Third Eye" on the Lateralus tour (got to see 'em three times, :) )

I saw System at a little club in Spartanburg, SC when they were supporting their first album. They really rocked. I was front and center the whole time and I got to meet them after the show. At the time I was playing drums in my current band and I talked to the drummer for over 15 minutes about all sorts of drum shit. They were really cool guys, most bands are, if you're not starstruck when you talk to them.

EDIT: and just think, that guy from Sum 41 is hitting that shit all night long....

i think i can rightly proclaim myself to be the biggest metalhead here. actually just picked up a couple sweet cds today in the used bin (the latest darkthrone, anorexia nervosa, nightrage).

i'm sure someone will have any decent footage up tonight, but if there is anything decent, i'm sure it will be stuff we've already seen.

I'm sure that none of the turds in this whole fiasco deserved to be at Skywalker ranch for this. La La, or whoever the fuck the bitch in the baby doll dress was probably doesn't even know the name of the droid she was standing beside (hence why she didn't actually say his name).

I should get a free fucking ticket to this movie for being forced to watch this shit. I wish A&E or some other channel had the viewership of MTV so Lucas could put this type of stuff on a channel that would care and not make it into a teenie bopper exploitation fiasco.

You know, the sad thing is, back in the day (i.e. 1980 or 1983) there was no need to hype a Star Wars movie on some shitty "Music" TV channel (I use the term "music" lightly). The movie itself was hype enough.

I remember from 1980 to 1983 all anyone on the playground at school could talk about was if Vader was really Luke's father.

Now all we get is, let's find out which shitty celebrities like Star Wars so we can all be cool too. These superfriends from TRL (the cast) have no clue and have to read fucking cue cards to make any meaningful statements. What happened to just going behind the scenes and conducting interviews with people who are ACTUALLY in the movie.

Oh, I know, because Ewan McGregor would tell them to piss off.

Oh yeah, the exclusive clip was fucking awesome.

And by the way, does anyone here actually give a fuck what Peter fucking Galagher thinks about Star Wars?

I would be interested if they had some of George Lucas' friends on here, like Speilberg or Coppola, I would love to hear their opinion. What about the actors from the old films? Why is Elijah Wood on here, why is the cast from "That 70's Show" on here?

Man, George looked awfully nervous about those guys being in the archives. Once again though, MTV's quick cut editing style didn't let us linger on anyone image for more than half a second. You couldn't see any detail in any of the props. My jaw dropped when the showed a CU of the Death Star II, and then it immediately cut away.

What a cocktease! I wanted to see all that little detail in the unfinished segments.

I have to say I love SLJ's insights into how things came to be for Mace Windu. It was interesting hearing that little tidbit about the lightsaber color. I knew most of it, but he put a more personal spin on it that made it refreshing.

Dr. Dre as Yoda
Eminem as Obi-Wan
50 cent as Anakin and

and then the host has the nerve to say "Sounds like a decent idea eh?"
