Star Wars: Revelations Fan Movie

Postby VaderLivesAgain » May 12th 2005 3:43 pm

Has anyone heard about the fan movie called Revelations? I saw something in USA Today from yesterday. I am trying to download it now. Just was wondering what anyone thought of it.

PS: This may not belong in this thread, so delete or move as necessary. :)

It's a shame such a piece of shit is getting so much legitimate press attention, thus giving the people who made it a much unneeded ego boost.

Agreed. It's absurdly over-rated.

Yeah I'm not a fan of this one, or really any fan film for that matter. Atleast not fan films that actually try to be serious.

The film feels more like something that would be on sci fi channel than anything ever in star wars.

I can't remember where, I think it was some MSN sub site, but this critic said it was better than anything GL has put out in the last 6 years LOL! He also states that the special effects give ILM a run for their money. If the dude would rather watch this kinda crap than Episode III it's fine with me. One less asshole in my way into the theatre.

Lucasfilm has since banned ALL "serious" fan films from the official fan film competition because they are generally garbage and nothing more than a lame attempt by the "filmmaker" to land a job at ILM (this springs from the success of Troops, since then no one has been noticed by Lucas :lol).

Basically the people who make these "serious" fan films learn how to do lightsabers in either Premiere or After Effects and then fill their "movies" with mind-numbingly boring saber fights that are just there to show off that they know how to rotoscope a saber blade in Premiere.

You want to see a GOOD Star Wars fan film? Here are some:
Imps (in the spirit of Troops)
Pink Five and Pink Five Strikes Back (Return of Pink Five coming soon)
The Jedi Hunter (Boba Fett Croc Hunter spoof)
TROOPS (The original and still the best)

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one that found this thing unwatchable... I made it through the first five minutes before I felt like I was watching a rerun of a syndicated Roddenbery show.

Totally! The only reason I actually watched it was because of how much pres s and hype it was getting. I couldn't watch the whole thing. Just skimmed through it.

It's sad too, cuz the director spent about 2 or 3 years I think making it, and it's just crap.

Just think how sore people asses would be from the child hood rapings, had Lucas made this film instead of Episode I.

I downloaded it out of curiousity and couldn't watch after five minutes. The farce of American Chopper and preggers was pretty funny but again pretty lame. If anyone wants this peice of crap pm me. Sadly, when you think about how much time and effort they put into this, they probably could've come up with a decent 5-10 minute flick.

I loved TROOPS. One of the most well done parody/fan films I've seen. But my hands-down favorite is How the Sith Stole Christmas. Absolutly stunning animation and story, as well as a little charming and hilarious as well. :chewbacca:

I've seen it, and it's boring. It has good special effects for sure for a fan film, though it's ridiculous people claiming it to be better than the prequals.. come on.

This movie was overhyped. The special effects are great for a fan film but the story totally sucked. Then they had a ugly fat lady as the main villain. DUMB

Did they ever release part 2 of that? I watched that about a year ago and it was awesome, but it was only the first half.

That and troops are definitely 1-2 in my book.

I totally trashed revelations in the fanfilms forum once when the first teaser was released...everyone jumped all over me...but it sure sounds like I was right.

Fanfilms should be like porn. A story is okay, but if I don't see some action in the first couple minutes I'm turning it off.

Totally agree.

Troops is great, and Art of Fighting would be the only serious one I could take seriously. The rest is pretty much crap, and I do agree that it's even worse than porn.

I've seen 3 decent fan-films:

Troops -- funny shit
Duality -- essentially an FX reel and a saber fight. What little acting there is sort of blows, but the fight choreography is great.
Dorkman vs Wieber -- zero plot, zero effects, just a lightsaber fight between two nerdy kids. REALLY goddamned good fight choreography.

everything else has been mildly humorous at best, but mostly mediocre garbage.

Lucasfilm has since banned ALL "serious" fan films from the official fan film competition because they are generally garbage and nothing more than a lame attempt by the "filmmaker" to land a job at ILM (this springs from the success of Troops, since then no one has been noticed by Lucas :lol).

Actually, I try to keep tabs on the fan film scene, and I'm pretty sure the Duality folks are doing things somewhere in "the industry" these days, and Ryan (of Ryan vs. Dorkman) landed a job at LucasArts, if I recall correctly.

Yes, the duality folks are somewhere in the industry I think. Ryan Wieber was hired by LucasArts but was recently let go I heard. Supposedly it was a temporary position. Also, the guy who created Bounty Trail or something like that is Justin Dix, who has a pretty big position as R2-D2 operator. He was the one who proposed to his wife on camera with R2 and 3p0 holding the ring.

Eh usually if there is an evil chick in fantasy she's either super hot with big ass titties hangin out, or she inhumanly ugly (because of makup effects). This chicks inhumanly ugly, but thats just the way she looks. In fact she might look even worse, cuz I'd imagine they put some sort of makeup on her in an attempt to make her photogenic.

She makes reese witherspoons chin look totally normal.

Revelations reminded me a lot of the cut scenes from the old "Jedi Knight" game. Except the game cut scenes were actually better... and that's saying a lot.

The Christopher Neame connection ...

Postby QuatermassX » May 16th 2005 9:22 am

Speaking of the old JEDI KNIGHT game. Actor Christopher Neame played the blind dark-Jedi baddie pulling all the strings ... took me a long time to remember where I saw him last: DRACULA AD 1972, a really crap Hammer film from, um, 1972 - starring Christopher Lee as Dracula and Peter Cushing as ... let me see .. Lorrimer Van Helsing, grandson of the original VanH who dispatched Drac ages ago.

A pity Georgie didn't use more amusing bit players from the UK ... could use some local colour and serious character actors ...

I downloaded it and watch it all the way through - only reason I did was because I knew some extras that were in it. Hell, if timing was different, *I* would have been an extra in it.

It's a shame that the effects weren't back up with a decent plot and reasonable acting. The effects are outstanding - but the acting and plot make it unwatchable.

An unkind person might say that they had hit the current trend of Star Wars movies on the head , then. ;)

Part of the reason I think it was so bad is because they all took themselves so seriously. That, and a bad script with bad acting.
But hey, I guess until I take the time to make something better I should just keep my opinion to myself....
