Starwars.nu has been fortunate enough to get an exclusive peek on the upcoming DVD release of The Empire Strikes Back. We did not see the whole film but skipped through the DVD and watched selected scenes. We can confirm that several things have been changed in relation to the VHS Special Edition from 1997. The greatest change is the scene in which Darth Vader talks to the hologrram of the Emperor. Now it is definately Ian McDiarmid acting as the Emperor's Hologram.
Another scene which is changed is the scene in which the rebels first fire the Ion cannon and hits a Star Destroyer. Here the ”explosionen” on the Star Destroyeren is EXTREMELY green, where it before was reddish-yellow. In all it seems like a lot of small things in the film has been changed/"improved". This might be because of the restoration or the computer monitor we watched it on.
We can also mention that the film has been restored so beautifully that you almost cry. The picture is razor sharp and looks like the film was made today. It is really amazing. Look forward to it.
Finally the Danish versions of the DVDs has been texted in the USA, So now R2's name is "R2" and not "Erto", as is the case on TV2 who uses the old captions.
Although the changes on ESB only are for the better, unles you are a dedicated purist, you can still fear/hope for the other two films. In A New Hope it will be exciting to see if clouds pass one of the suns on Tatooine, if they have improved the horrible CGI Jabba and if Greedo still shoots first.
With Return of the Jedi the big question is whether or not the spirit scene with Sebastian Shaw as Anakin has been replaced with Hayden Christensen.
UPDATED
Now Return of the Jedi has also come to Denmark and we can relax because Sebastian Shaw has not been replaced by Hayden Christensen in the Jedi Spirit scene. Like ESB also RotJ has been shined up to the point you lamost cry!
Now we just need to see what good old George has done with A New Hope!
Along with RotJ has the 4th disc with the bonus material arrived in DK. There is, amongst other things, a 9 minutes 7 seconds long preview for Episode III in which you can see Anakin in his Vader costume and also hos the crew from ILM molds a new Vader helmet. Great stuff!
Should we get lucky and get a peek at ANH you will be the first to know.
