how can he not explain it? Does he even need to? If Palps tells a story that gives us enough exposition to understand Palps's manipulation and Anakin's motivation, what more is there to explain?

Hade, firstly, Palps is probably lying to Anakin. Secondly, there will probably be more explained about this, perhaps during the sith history lesson, and thirdly, I don't think it's that important that we know the details of how such a power would work, just that Sidious tells Anakin this power exists. It's a mcguffin in a sense.

Of course after Padme's death Vader stays loyal to the emperor, in the hope that he will 'deal him in' on this neat trick (if it even exists) so he can ressurect the one he most loves. Eventually after years of waiting he realises that Palpatine has little intention of telling him, because once he does his hold on Vader is gone. Part of Anakin's mind still clings onto the hope that eventually Sidious will relinquish this knowledge and he can bring Padme back from the dead (and possibly heal his own body?). When Luke appears on the scene Vader realises this is his big chance to knock off Palpatine and take control of the galaxy affording him the power to discover how to use the Midichlorians to ressurect life, rather than waiting on his master. But when Palpatine starts frying Luke on DS2 he is faced with the choice of killing the Emperor and forever losing Padme (also at the cost of his own life) or allowing his son to die and again hoping that someday Palpatine will pass on the secret or he will get another opportunity. So when he kills the emperor in ROTJ not only is he giving up his life and saving his son he is finally letting go of the one he loves most: Padme Amidala. That sure changes how you look at the OT, right?

- Obi-Wan vanishing right in front of him must have really fucked with his mind. You can imagine his disbelief that Obi-Wan has somehow acquired a new power which has allowed him to face death without fear "i will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine" You can practically see Vader thinking "WTF is all that about?" when he steps on Obi-Wans cloak. This further re-inforces his doubts in regards to having made the wrong choice..... Who knows what lies Palpatine told Dooku to seduce him to the dark side......

It probably is too complex. It just seems logical that the Emperor must have some hold over Anakin that prevents him from leaving after he becomes an Iron Lung and realises he's been had. It's got to be either the power to extend or ressurect life. Then there's the whole possibility of 2 Sith needing each other (like some kind of symbiotic relationship) to prolong their lives. Too many potential theories....

LOL I try not to think too deep into the storyline, that way you enjoy the OT and the PT. I can only understand the little snippets of clues and references you get from the PT. Like in AOTC, at his Mums grave, he say's "I failed you, but I promise that I won't fail again".
You have like two references there, one that he becomes the most pwerfullbeing there is, but the biggie is him not letting another loved one die, ie: Luke getting fried by Palps.
Because he does fail again, which causes Padme's death, which throws him off his promise and to the Dark-side, when he saves Luke that returns him to his presence of AOTC Aniken, probably a load of crap you think, but just though I put my view of the movies in

Screw Lucas he has made everything so confusing, to a film I thought I undertood and knew, until now.

I hate movies you can't figure out before you've seen them.. and those ones that make you think.. and the ones that pose questions, but don't answer them..

It's actually a lot simpler than what we're making it...

The Sith were becoming extinct, Plagueis wanted an apprentice that would be loyal and not turn on him, so he gained enough power to manipulate the midichlorians and created Sideous... This act created an imbalance in the force. Sideous learns the truth of his create and how to do it. Like Frankenstien's monster, his creation turns on him and kills him.

After all, why do you think the clones have no midichlorians? It's all about control.

Years later, the force creates Anakin as an antithesis to Sideous in order to restore the balance that shifted when Plagueis created Sideous.

And I don't think Sidious was lying, either. If Plagueis was Sidious's master, and it seems pretty clear he was, then SIdious must be fairly old. Therefore, he probably used this "extension of life" to keep himself around.

He just never teaches it to Anakin.

He obviously leaves out those details to let Anakin make his own assumptions. And we all know what happens when you assume... It makes a Sith out U and ME ;-)

Here's my crackpot theory of the day to add to the ever-growing list. When Anakin bangs Padme, a child is the result (Leia). She has some of Anakins abilities but also characteristics of her mother. The Force uses this moment to add Luke, to try to bring balance cos it failed with Vader. In A New Hope Luke only has to be told his dad was a Jedi and a coupla hours later he's defending himself agains laser balls blindfolded. Perhaps Luke is also a Force creation?

I must say that these spoilers are living up to the claim made before (by McCallum?) that after ROTS we will never watch the OT in the same way. Vaders character (to me) is totally different in ESB/ROTJ as he knows he has a son. Perhaps he only expected a daughter. I think the Emporer has long known Vader is not as fully devoted to him as he once was. Earlier someone mentioned that Vader sticks with Palpy to learn how to prolong life/raise the dead and eventually realises Palps lied/or won't share. That would make Vaders service to Palps seem more of a betrayal,Palpy tricking him (seduce) to the dark side. As soon as he sees he has a son he starts to change, remembering what he's lost.

Another thing that no one seems to mention... I was under the impression that the Palps showing/telling Anaking about the sith was later in the film, maybe just before the Mace-Palps duel.
This theather scene must be early in the film. Does this means that Anakin knows that Palps is a sith that early in the film? Or does Palps gives this "history lesson" to Anakin without letting him know his connection with the sith?

Most likely the latter. I still don't think Palpatine fully tells Anakin the truth about him being Darth Sidious and explaining his plot until after the Mace and posse duel.

damn... personally, I was really hoping we'd never hear about the midichlorians again, but this sounds like an interesting take on the whole idea of them.

So after the duel, Anakin will be dead... not clinging to life but dead.

Palps grabs his dead body and uses his Sith knowledge to "influence the midichlorians to create life"... in the dead body of Anakin.

So far most of the spoilers are nice.

I have visions of this part of the movie being Attack of the Clone like, in forced dialogue and unbelievability.

I could just as well settled for none of this exposition, simply Palpatine manipulating the Jedi to the point were Anakin willingly turns to the darkside out of manipulation and his own weakness over succumbing to power. (which is what basically happens anyway) except it couldn't have been carried over into the plot in depth, instead Lucas inserts this plot device to help push it along.

I don't need to see a "Admiral Ackbar dancing around" in Star Wars with Palpatine enticing Anakin through the story of Darth Plagueis....It sounds so fucking EU.

The story is needed 100%.

Aside from the Yoda on a Dragonfly bit, I'm very optimistic about how this movie sounds, but this scene is not IMO something that sounds that great.

I'm not getting into that whole OT vs PT bullshit, it just sounds crappy. If it's all a lie by Palpatine, and it's obvious to us as viewers, that's fine. Personally I'd be too distracted by the dancing Calamari.

I think its fairly obvious what the difference is between Sith and Jedi here.

Sith resurrection or prolonging of life turns you into the undead - neither living or dead but always encased in decaying flesh. Whilst the Jedi one is life AFTER death - but life in a different spritual form.

I think there's more to it than that, or you would see a hell of a lot more Jedi ghosts at the end of ROTJ, like the rest of the Jedi Council. Seems maybe only a few know the true answer.

I know im mostly a lurker here, ive made one or two threads but thats it, but i have been following these HARD COPY spoilers, and am i the only one here who thinks that if someone has the novelization they should spill it.

Tern thanks for the spoils but you say that telling us more gives something away, and as Fatboy points out this is a spoiler site. Why not just post the whole novelization (or in depth summary) on a thread and title it "COMPLETE NOVELIZATION (or summary or whatever) TONS OF SPOILERS" those who dont want to know everything will stay away, but i think everyone here would be interested in the complete lowdown.
